      rusty tank -dipping/coating?

I have a rusty steel motorcyle tank, surface rust inside.I want to send it somewhere to have it dipped and coated with something permanent so it wont rust in 5 years. I plan to respray it again so i dont care if the paint is destroyed.I have tryed the home methodes and they dont work-kreem, etc. any info would be appreciated. the tank is an odd shape with baffles so its tricky to coat without dipping. HELP!

Get it acid dipped first, then hmm, not sure what to do as far as coating the inside...?

I don't know if you have tryed this but taking the tank and throwing some rocks inside along with a solution like degreaser or gas or anything and then shake it up. This will help remove the rust. Another thing is taking a high pressure washer with high heat. I cleaned the tank on my 65 mustang that had 14 year old gas in it and it was as good as new when finished.

Thanks Andrew but the tank has a strange shape with a baffle inside so that wont get the corners. I have owned the bike for twenty years and have done this several times, I want this to be the last time. I am even considering having an aluminum tank made but its a lot of money.
The rock method works great if you secure the tank in a cement mixer and leave it for an hour, by the way.

eastwoodco i think has a gas tanking coating system. Never used it though. I'll need to on my project when I get to it.

How about having it hot tanked? I've heard of people doing this with good success. I have used the POR15 tanking coating system with good success.

I believe any radiator shop can/should be able to hot dip a tank. I had the tank done in a 77 Cordoba, and then coated with a black gel like sustance. This shop did radiators and tanks. Worked good, no problems.

I have called a few radiater shops and they dont have a coating that will resist gas.I have tried the do-at-home kits and I cant get the stuff to coat even, the tank has steps in it.All my friends have tried the kits also, its a short term solution. If you know of a shop that will hot tank and then coat it with something I will call them.thanks.
