      What's Stopping You?

      Hey Guys,

I've been doing lots of bench racing and decision making in the last few weeks and I am wondering out loud...what is stopping you? I mean, what brake set ups are you using? Baer? Willwood? C5/C6? stock? I am also interested to see as to why you made that choice.

      C5/C6 brakes all around.
Reasons: Wear items easily found at most part houses. They look damn good in natural aluminum finish without the 'vette logo. Integral parking brake drum in hat made for a clean installation and no-brainer effective parking brake.

I have the Baer GT+ front and Touring rear set up on both cars. They're essentially C5/6 front brakes and C4 rear brakes. So far they've worked flawlessly with the hydroboost. However, I discovered I need a more agressive pad compound for road course work.

I'm in the process of putting them on, but it will be LS1, at least in the fronts for now. I'm on a budget build, so I was looking into some inexpensive front disc kits, but I decided to go with the LS1 because of the dual piston caliper over the single piston on alot of the cheaper kits. I could have gone with the C5/6 setup, but I was trying to stay away from getting new rims right now, but in the end I need to pick up some rims and tires anyway, The LS1 and Corvette brakes are both huge. what I like is I can just go to an autoparts store and buy parts for it pretty easily.

I will be running a combination of Wilwood and OEM.

Fronts will be Wilwood 6 piston Superlites.

I am currently running LS1 Camaro rear brakes. I am going to adapt a Wilwood caliper to the existing mounting bracket. If anyone is interested in brackets to mount a Wilwood caliper to LS1 Camaro rears (keeping the OE drum in hat parking brake), keep your eyes peeled. I will be working on this soon.

C5-Based BAER GT fronts, C5Z rears for me. Since I'm using the AFX spindles, a corvette based system made a lot of sense. The Baer versions of the corvette brakes aren't really any different, but I think they look better and they definitely come with better rotors.

I may buy a set of Baer Monoblock front calipers someday to replace the C5-based Baers, but that will depend on how many track days I do and if the current calipers don't prove to be up to the task. For a street car, the Baer GT stuff works really really well. I love the way my car brakes. I even go so far as to compare the performance and feel of my Camaro's brakes to the Porsches I've driven/owned. I use a 15/16" master and a vacuum booster. My car is a couple hundred pounds lighter than most, which probably helps too.

For the rear, I'm glad I went with a floating caliper, as the fixed calipers can have some pad knockback issues that are a real pain to fix. I'm fine with not having to fight those battles. I suppose this benefit applies to the fronts as well.

c6 z06. huge brakes, oem parts backing and they were seriously cheap for what they are. the only guys with complaints about them either complained when they were first new and there were no pad options, or they track their cars on a regular basis. and i dont mean autocross when i refer to tracking. i mean 20 lap sessions.

Currently I have OEM single piston calipers all around. Caddy parking brake versions in the rear. Once my project is complete I'll probaly upgrade my fronts to the best I can use and still fit with my 15" Convo Pros.

I'm running LS1 brakes front and rear with aftermarket sloted rotors and hawks pads. The reason... I got everything done for 350.00 including rotors and hawks pads.
