My insurance agent is cool, she told me if I ever crashed at the track just push it out to the road and she'll take care of it. get your car appraised.

I currently have classic car insurance but am going to have to switch to race car insurance. With the classic car insurance I had to type a letter stating I was not going to race, but now that I have pulled the car off the shelf I'm gonna have to cover my butt specially since I registered for the Spectre341Challenge. I have till the end of May to figure it out and will post info when I get it.

My insurance states that it will not be covered if it was in an event of any kind of racing. I do have an appraisal now, but I would HATE to see a big problem at the track with no insurance coverage!

There is insurance for race cars. My stepson had it on his drag car years ago. I've talked to several guys at road tracks who had it. One guy at Lime Rock had just wrecked his Porsche GT3 track car and said the insurance would cover it (I'd guess 10-15 thou damage). He was sure because he'd totaled his GT2 track car the year before on track and it was covered. He said it wasn't that expensive, however, he was obviously in a much higher bracket of disposable income than I was.

There is such a thing. It's very common in professional road racing where you have 'funded' drivers driving cars they don't own. The companies usually have reps at the major races.

I spoke with Dave over at Nor Cal NASA and he told me that you have to be real careful because there are alot of shady race car insurance carriers, but he also told me that there are some legitiment one's also.

He didn't want to give any names so I e-mailed Ryan Flaherty with NASA.

I will keep you guys posted.

In the front of my SCTA rule book is an ad for "Motorsports Insurance Services" 310-301-0333, they're in LA, CA. I don't have any dealing with them, I've just seen them in the rule book for quite a while now.

Dave is in upper management at NASA. Any info he gives could pose liability.

I am still researching and have some good leads. I will post info when I have enough worthy information.

Yeah, it exists, I believe anyone who races professionally is required to have it.

I really doubt average companies offer anything for it, though. I bet calling your regular company to ask about it would raise your rates.

I don't know of any "on track" insurance that covers a vechicle. There are pleanty of company's out there that will cover if a race car is stolen out of a trailer, or if you are hurt on track. But nothing that covers the car in a race pile-up

1971 Camaro, 383 stroker ~500HP,M21 Trans with lightened flywheel. All Sorts of Auto-x Goodness in the Suspension. 12" Brakes ->SOLD

But ask me about my 2004 STi Auto-x car...

There are indeed companies that cover the car in on-track incidents. I inquired about this type of insurance during a Motorola Cup race in 2000 during the Rolex 24 weekend at Daytona. I spoke with a gentleman in the paddock, but I no longer have is name or business info. As I recall, the insurance was prohibitively expensive for what I was looking for. I'm sure someone from one of the pro race forums can help you out with a name.

Yes, there may still be coverage available for you car when on track but I have not checked in a longtime.

Bill Parrish from Parrish Motorsports Insurance offered this coverage and was the largest insurer of vintage race cars in the USA. Bill basically pioneered this type of insurance. Parrish Motorsports Insurance became Parrish Heacock Insurance after Bill's death and merger with Ford Heacocks company and is now just Heacock Insurance. Both previously did offer on track insurance for vintage race cars. Coverage was VERY EXPENSIVE for on track coverage!

Heacock still writes vintage race car insurance for the masses that is affordable and covers you everwhere but the racing surface. If nothing has changed your race car was covered everywhere including the pits and on the false grid. Everywhere but the racing surface. Coverage was reasonable and they do know race cars. Ford Heacock is also a vintage racer from way back when. I am sure that they have some type of coverage for a track car. The sticky part may get into a car that is NOT a dedicated race but also a street car because of the liability issues associated with that. I am sure the policies are different and therfore the coverages would be different. It would be interesting to see what the Bull Run competitors are doing for insurance because you can bet your ass a regular car insurance policy or collector policy will not cover a timed, staged or competetive event such as Bull Run. Kinda hard to hide also since its on TV for all to see!!You can pretty much forget about on track coverage since virutally nobody can afford the premium. Well, some can but not many.

By the way Mr Quick. The agent mentioned in a post above that told you to push the car out to the road and call her is an IDIOT who will become an accompliss along with you in Felony insurance fraud if you wreck you car during a race/timed event and take her advice. If she represented an insurance company I ran she would be fired immediately for making such foolish and illegal suggestions to a customer. I suggest you seriously consider moving your business to another agent. If she will SCREW the hand that feeds her imagine what she will do to you!!!

Thanks guys. So it sounds that it could be avaliable, but not affordable. I'm sure that the liability would be fairly high, but in all reality, someone could market this and probably make good money. I mean if a current speciality insurance co would offer this to their regular customers for a "per race" fee. The charge could be a resonable charge, but with a high, like $5,000+ deductable to try to curb the fraud but to actually help the car owner. The requirements could be like normal with appraisals on the front end and an actual track "wreck report" with pics for the back end if something were to go wrong. Just a thought!
keep us updated on what you find if you would guys, thanks a ton again!

OK Guy's, this is what I have so far:

There is a company by the name of K and K Insurance. They will cover on track incidences. If you are running an HPDE event premiums are significantly cheaper and in most cases your own insurance companies will encourage these type of events..

If you are running timed events the premium is higher and is usually 3-10% the amount that you are insuring. You need to have what is called a Drivers CV which is some sort of resume showing your track experience.

They do not cover bodily injury but keep in mind the sanctioning body holding the event is required to cover a certain amount of that and I didn't have time to find out how much but will find out soon.

For bodily injury there is a company by the name of Stida Insurance. The premium is $450 and insures up tp $250,000 for medical bills paid out over two years. In a case of death they pay $10,000.
