Pro Touring Trophy Cup at The Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge

Grassroots Motorsports magazine is hosting a flat out time trial competition for Pro Touring cars. Unlike other events, Grassroots Motorsports isn't looking for the most well rounded car. The Pro Touring Trophy Cup will validate the performance and capability of pro-touring cars and parts such as suspension, brakes and drivetrain. Fastest lap time wins the trophy.

Grassroots Motorsports will publish individual data for each and every participant. You'll see how pro-touring cars stack up against each other as well as against a wide variety of weekend track toys and even dedicated track cars. You want data? You got data.

The Pro Touring Trophy Cup runs within the legendary Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge. That means we will FINALLY get to see how pro-touring car stack up against a wide range of high performance machines including Vettes, BMW's, Porsche's, AWD turbo's and more. The dedicated track cars will still dominate the event, but let's see how our cars rank amongst the entire field.

Yup. Paul Faessler's Mustang is a dedicated track car. It would not be eligible for the Pro Touring Cup. It's a great car though. And heavy interest in car's like this and Glenn Bunch's Challenger have inspired the Pro Touring Cup.

GRM will hand pick street cars for the invitation only event.

no, chris griswold won in a late 90s mustang, paul won in 2008, he did not compete in 09 or had a failure.

always has been, real track days handle 100-125 cars and all get 4 20-30 mins sessions.

I think they should make the "track only" cars run on DOT tires to make the comparison valid. Especially when you consider that some of the PT cars are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Looks like a fun event.. my car will be that direction, so who knows. I can't beat "race cars" though, but we can put up a decent fight.

The Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge (UTCC) does not involve any "fender to fender" racing. That's silly. It's a time trial competition. The UTCC kicks off a regularly scheduled NASA Mid-Atlantic race weekend.

Fri - Sat - Sun.

Come out to run or watch the amazing UTCC and then stay all weekend to drive the wheels off your car at one of the country's best tracks: VIR

The UTCC always attracts an extraordinary collection of hyper fast street and track cars. And starting this year, that collection will include some capable pro-touring cars. It will be great to see how our cars compare.

Hopefully, the UTCC will entice pro touring enthusiasts to show up and then stay for weekend HPDE schools. You don't need a pro-touring or sports car for HPDE. All you need is a safe car and a helmet. There are four levels to HPDE to suit all experience levels.

Yup, I've done several HPDE events up here at Road America. You're right, not really fender-to-fender, but there's a lot of passing and on track competition, at least at the events I've been to.

This sounds like an awesome event, wish I could be there.

BTW - I second the motion on GRM being one of my favorite pubs. I get dozens each month and GRM always lands on the top of the pile!
