      wishbone advice

hello there folks... and greeting from the miserable UK.... i was searching on google for a technical resource and found this site... so...

a quick query for you experienced gents.....

i recently forund a company in france that supply these:

      but there 1800euros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i printed the pic off nice and big and scaled a few bits from a couple of KNOWN dimensions....
this gave me a start spec:

rear mount bearing - 17mm internal 35mm external 12mm race width (will get the rest of the dims off local bearing dealer)
inboard rose joint - 5/8th UNF (they use 14mm i think)
outboard rose joint - 7/8th UNF (they use M20)
      tubing - 1 1/4 x 12swg CDS carbon steel tube "CFS 3BK" (they use 30mm)

now my question is... the machined items.. (the stub for the spherical bearing and the threaded inserts..)

what grade of mild steel is best for this aplication???
in the UK stock choices are:
      EN8?? EN24?? 16T?? 19T??? 24T??? EN36???

      any advice greatly recieved....
      stu

Steel definition using BS 970 is very uncommon in the US, we generally use SAE definition

      EN 8 is 1140/1146
      EN 24 is 4340
EN 36 No common corresponding grade
16T, 19T, and 24T- IIRC these are the yield strengths (16 Ton/sq in, or 32ksi for example) of carbon steels.

When I was having swivel pins fabricated for my MGB, I used 8620 (805M20 or 805A20) on the recommendation of a steel supplier I was using at the time for a similiar application. I would use a low carbon steel (EN3B) for the threaded tube bobbins.

Don't know if this is helpful, as I don't know availability of 8620 in the UK, but some should be available through the post

ahhh many thanks for your reply..... EN3B has been mentioned to me too so will obtain some of that soon... the tube should be here early next week (4 to 5 day lead time) which just leaves me to make the jig.....

Happy to have been of some small service. Can you tell me what the control arm fits? Moderately curious.
