LS1 Brake Help Please!
I have been working on this for the past couple of weekends solid: I am on the verge of going of the deep end. I have always had more drag on pass compared to the drivers side since doing the swap.
Now the issue is compounded LS1 caliper/Drum spindle combo, in which the upper bolt boss was supposedly machined flat(even with lower boss) by a suspect machine shop.
I recently replaced both calipers with reman units a couple of weeks ago and turned the pass side rotor on the hub. Assembled and everything it seemed good limited(normal drag). However, the caliper kept leaking at the inlet and finally I had to again replace the pass caliper. The new replacement had a ton of drag, one piston is sticking out further than the other.
Two more calipers later, the last one a different brand-(MAJOR Drag )on the pass side. Still Dragging Hardcore!
I since replumbed the hard lines, checked and changed flexible front lines. New pads to make sure they were square-(caliper floats freely on well lubed abuttments).
I just removed my power MC and Booster and replaced it with a 7/8 bore wilwood MC going to manual. Bled the system and its just as bad if not worse.
I knew the MC wasn't the issue this was just to improve pressure and modulation.
I can't believe that three different calipers could be defective, the drag on the pass side has always been greater, but now it is ridiculous. I zeroed up the caliper bracket to the back side of the rotor with dial indicator and ended up having to move the lower caliper mounting point out .007" with shim.
Could the caliper be too far of center due to alignment and applying pressure to the pads?
The only things left-possible alignment issue or intermittent residual pressure on one side?
I cannot figure it out!
I am at a total loss. The next thing is replace the spindles with Un-touched factory originals and buy and bracket kit. I am not necessarily convinced this would remedy the issue!
It did do this with the other MC and if it was residual pressure, wouldn't both calipers be sticking?
Please help, I am just about ready to give up!
Thanks, SS.

03-01-2010 #2start by putting ur pass side caliper on the dr side to see if the drag fallows the caliper if not the u have a different issue. then check to see if the rotor fits flat on the hub if so good, then check the bracket with a level. if everything seems fine i would get new drum spindles and kore3 brackets the require no mod to the spindles.

did you make sure that you had same amount of space between rotor and caliper abundment, I had the same problem.
