Since I'm building a Pontiac, I was looking around for some motor info and stumbled across Pontiac Zone. I lurked around a bit and decided to join. Well, I got an e-mail back from the admin saying I don't meet their requirements?? What's up with that? I guess I'm just not worthy......

I guess I'll have to plan some more modifications I'm already planning to splice the round gas cap section from a 67 Camaro into my Firebird panel, lol. I wonder how they feel about that?

Did you mention that the car is going to be Pro-Touring? I don't know of the site but after looking around it looks as if its mostly Pro-Street cars and originals. Most of which the owners do not "approve" of us "ricing" our cars out.

Nope, I completed the registration; which asked for my D.O.B, address, and phone number, although I did use the same user i.d as I do here. I just figured they're extra cautious of spammers. All the e-mail said was that I do not meet their requirements. I asked what that meant, but have just been ignored. I was just looking for more detailed info and support since I'm running the Pontiac motor. Age discrimination?? Whatever it is, the whole thing is lame.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I already have an idea of how I want to build this motor, I just want to have as much info as possible before I start.

You're really not missing much at Pontiac Zone. There really isn't much activity. Performance Years is the most active.

Let me know if you need info about something. Ponchos can be a little unique. Pontiac motors definitely are not chevies. Take advantage of other peoples experience rather than making mistakes you can avoid.

I know, I'm slowly figuring that out, but I'm determined to keep my car Ponch powered. And thanks, I will.

I am a member of both. I might visit the zone 1 time for every 50 that I am on PY. There is alot of tech over there for Pontiac engines. Depending on your build or what you know about Pontiac engines, I would recommend Jim Hands Book as a Primer. It covers just about everything you can do with a stock block,heads, and crank. From there on out I would recommend you talk to one of the better Pontiac builders who are close to your area. If location isn't a concern I would say talk to SD Performance, Butler, Cerelli, Ken Keefer, Ken Brewer, just to name a few. They will steer you in the right directions. All will answer you questions, and won't try to push parts on you.

yup performance years is the best... BUT... dont even THINK to mention pro-touring.. or youll get an eye/ear full.

Join PY, tons of good info on that site in reguards to Pontiacs. Every brand name site has its purists but these guy show some mercy.

And you don't think you won't get lashed with a wet noodle repeatedly here (pro-touring) for putting in Non-Poncho parts?

My aftermarket "everything else" is perfectly fine since it is suspension enhancing, but good god don't touch the six cylinder or it is Pontiac blasphemy.

Why is it perfectly fine to take out a 327 to put a 502 in a Camaro, but don't touch my own damn car which I drove for 25 years with the six?

Wait until they (purists) see my new engine stand a.k.a. Pontiac hooked to blender.

Are they hypocritical? Very much so. Still a lot of great information/ideas/people on both pro-touring and performance years.

I'm just trying to keep the best stuff and add in what I think will work. At this point, I should just call my project recycled bird or something. I've got the poncho 400, a T56 out of a Viper, a ford 9 inch, and a set of seats out of an 2005 GTO on the way. How's that for a combo??

Luckily, I already had a bitch'n motor for another project just sitting there (we don't need to discuss the manufacturer). My 12 bolt is not 10 bolt BOP. I already gave that to a buddy for his numbers car. My 4 speed muncie shifter. On the wall as art next to the Hurst T-handle. Replaced by a Tremec TKO600. My seats are 2000 Firebird though. Does that give me extra credit?

I have to agree, PY has a ton of good info. I also don't mind transamcountry.com. Its mainly geared towards second gen birds but there is still a lot of good info to be had on Poncho engines there. I'm not a purist, but I do kringe a little when I see a Pontiac without a Pontiac engine. To each his own though. I'm not going to judge anyone for it.

I used to cringe when I didn't see a Poncho in a Poncho...the I got a '79 TA with a 403 and fell in love with those motors...had a few of those...the one in my '84 Cutlass drag car has run a best of 11.56 at 118.

BUT...after owning my '06 GTO for about a week I fell in love with the LS motor. After doing a lot of "stocky" or old school hop ups I decided to do an LS swap in my '78 TA and a ton of other upgrades suspension and brake wise. I do not regret it one bit. She will be out on the road in a few weeks when it dries up a bit but here's a little clip...sorry for my gheyness...three year project to the point in the vid:

Try this one. I am also a Pontiac Zone member. Can't even see what could possibly be the problem. I haven't been there in a long time. I like this forum and PSP's.
