LOL....good job!...If you didn't see it lastnight, trust me when I say, the commercials and the halftime show were awful this year...what a waste of extremely expensive airtime.

The Who was awful....I think they must have been drunk or high....Not the same group that I remember when I was younger.

I thought they were pretty tight, they've never played any of those songs live with those odd arrangements and I did not see them miss. Anyone who expected 1975 they are crazy. It isn't the same w/o the Ox.

But they are old, and Daltry's voice hit that wall just a few years ago. But I hope I can still get around and do my thing when I'm over 60. I'd still take this over some amercian idol garbage.

They couldn't even get their singing together, timing was way funky, almost like they had forgotten the words and were echoeing each other. I had to laugh at that space money on the drums....wife and I sat there wondering how in the world that they got that gig. I didn't expect them to be perfect, but man that was an extremely poor performance, even for 60yo's....LOL

You mean hang it up again. I remember having a going away bash at my friends house back in the 80's during their, I think, pay-per-view farewell concert.

None of us are what we were 30 years ago.

Having seen the The Who twice in concert, 2007 and 2009 (Both Show's at the new Nokia theatre in LA which has perfect accustics)... and Roger Daltrey on a solo gig (Orpheum Theatre) here in LA again in 2009.

They're a still a tight band, and the singing is still good... from what I caught of the halftime show, I'm not sure if the sound system at the stadium was up to par? From my TV it didn't sound all that great... sorta hazzy. Like they were playing too loud for the audio recording.

I've got to admit, I've never been a big fan of the Half time shows... they're always rushed and never sound that great.





At least they didn't have any 'wardrobe malfunctions' like we've seen in the past... ew.

Obviously they didn't have to audition for it! Lol.. I dont think they would've got it if they did. I love them as a band... back in their day at least. And I'm glad they were featured over some pop culture trash, that's for sure.

I wanted them to be better. You caught glimpses of why they were great, but they were definitely off.

USA TODAY -- The Who's Pete Townshend, 64, and Roger Daltrey, 65, performed a medley of hits at last night's 12-minute, laser-lit Super Bowl halftime show. According to AP, it was the first football game either of the Brits had seen.

"I thought it went OK," Daltrey told ESPN. The rock star apparently wasn't very pleased with the gig. "I understand. It's a TV show. Cameras were everywhere," he said. "I was so blinded that I couldn't see."

He added, "And I really wished the crowd would have gotten into singing the songs with us more. That's how it is in Europe for our soccer matches. I wanted more banter."

Townshend disagreed. "We were trying to put on a great show," he said. "We had as much fun as we could have."

While the San Diego Union says they sounded "pretty good," there's a lot of criticism out there this morning. The Dallas Morning News says "the stage was the most exciting part of the show." The Chicago Sun-Times said they were "woefully flat and out of sync ..." And The Houston Chronicle noted: "While Pete Townshend offered a succinct master class as to why he's one of rock's most important and innovative guitarists, the band's set was shouty and reliant on its legend. It was the musical equivalent of having your food chewed for you, with six guys doing what four used to."

That's what bothered me more than anything: 6 guys, not 4. I was even wondering if Townshend's iconic windmills were real. The motion was there, but it didn't match the sound very well.

Oh well. As others observed, it could have been Kanye West or something equally awful.

Last night's Who might not be the Who of old, but they still rock harder than a lot of contemporary bands, and the songs still play well... more than you can say of songs from a lot of bands from a mere 5 years ago.

Bad as it was, I still am glad it was LIVE. Id rather hear a rough live performance over a lip sync stage act any day.

LOL...my wife who is a little younger than I didn't understand the slug bug commercial.....I had to laugh because we, my brothers and I, used to play slug bug for entertainment on long trips in the back of that old station wagon when we were growing up.

Yeah, the slug bug made me laugh out loud.... That was it. The "Green Police" was a cute take on the song.... I'll by a new TT for a driver if they put the TDI in it...50 + MPG highway!!! In the 80's my younger brother had a diesel VW truck for running back and forth to college and he often got over 50 MPG with the old technology... PUNCH... RED ONE!!! LOL!!!

Going back to The Who... it's once said that "Art often unwittingly reflects on society". I doubt a single person who chanted the line from the famous Who song "Wont get Fooled Again" realized the irony.

I disagree. The context of it all - being forced to stay perfect on cue, altered versions, missing bars to fit it in, etc. I was not expecting Live at Leeds (a must own!). A a listener of plenty of bootlegs, I have heard live who shows way bigger messes than this. My expectations were not high and I was pleasantly surprised. Not perfect, but neither are they. Go find the show at the cow palace on you tube where moon passes out and an audience member filled in. Classic. This band could get very messy.

Oh yeah, Zakk Starkey kicks ass on the set, This is not a typical performance due to the aforementioned limits. And he busted out the clear vistalites. Cool points for sure.

Any who fan worth their weight in baked beans knows they've used a keyboard player live on or behind the stage since the early 70s, probably 71 IIRC. I wish the Who & Zeppelin had carried an extra guitar player on tour, really would have fattened the sound up.

I'll add this. I saw Metallica last January,. The Who last night was better. Tighter, better drumming (and tempo, lars you blow) and better in key singing.

I realized it did something commercials rarely do - it was successful in two completely different ways (dichotomous?).

It got the clean air message across and it was a reflection of how utterly annoying and over the top the whole movement is. I liked that part.

Very true. I think the best bands live are 5 piece, with a vocalist, rhythm and lead guitars, bassist, and drummer. Like the Stones, Aerosmith, AC/DC, and many others. 3 and 4 piece bands can sound a bit spare live.
