      GM Sales UP in January

      Just in off the wire:

GM sales UP 14% un-adjusted or 22% adjusted. Adjusted for what who the hell knows?

      Gm

IF you go outside of the US GM owns the market. I have a hard time believing that we live in America and people buy foreign cars like they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Go to JD powers and associates and take a look at the recall section. Toyota has more recalls than GM, Ford and Chrysler combined. How can they outsell when they build cars with so many recalls? Not to metion what is going on with the gas pedals sticking to the floor and a bunch of toyota's hitting the wall because they can't control them. As for GM I only have to say one thing. When 911 happened they were the first automotive company to give 10 million to the relief and then of course Ford and Chrysler followed. But no foreign company gave a dime to help with the effort? Why? Because they don't care! Keep supporting the same people that don't support us and see how far it gets you. Anybody here remember WWII?

Group mentality and creative marketing. Look at Apple - sure, they make good products - but their ads have degraded to "Apple good, Microsoft bad," all completely sans fact. Yet they have legions of uninformed customers.

      Foreign cars are "cool," bro.

Worldclass marketing that has exploited a reputation given to foriegn automakers back in the 70's. Combine this with reputations given to US makers (albeit somewhat deserved) back in the late 70's, early-mid 80's that US cars were unreliable, cheaply appointed, gas guzzlers, and breakdown/recall prone, as well as the general sense that both the automotive and general media has "favored" non-US makers for years, and you get what we have now.

This "shift" in perception has not occured overnight and cannot be expected to shift back instantly.

So don't look for any deals on GM vehicles in the near future.
