CheZoom?

Does anybody know what happened to Coddington's CheZoom? I heard it was transformed into being something "unrecognizable", but may be on its way to being restored to the original Tom Taylor design. Anyone have pictures of the second version?

The last time I seen it , it was on Barrett-Jackson a couple of years ago. IIRC, a woman bought it. Can't remember her name though. Whatever happened to it after that is beyond me. Hope this helps.

I found this on Barrett-Jackson's website. Sold in 2005 for $379,500

that basically makes no sense...buy a car for almost 400K because it was a late Coddington classic...then completely change it? the car was in mint shape when it rolled across the auction block

I agree here. To spend that kind of money on a one of a kind Coddington car, then alter it any way would lessen the value considerably. Why not buy one on the cheap, then do whatever you want...makes no sense...

I love that car too but hated the second rendition interior in it.

That one was done when Boyd was really on his game. That and Delahay (sp) my favorites.

CheZoom was built at Hot Rods by Boyd when Boyd and I were still business partners. It was a fantastic car, one of the highlights was I got to drive it through downtown Tokyo, Japan for a video.

I agree with Frank that the car was redone with a horrible interior. I hope whoever bought it at B-J does or did restore it! That car is a driver and for a car of its size handled well.

No, we didn't bring Foose on until around 1994, he did do some freelance work for us in I think 1993.

All I want to know is what were you guys smokin to dream that thing up? If someone built Chezoom today (assuming that one had not been built), it would blow minds today. Should have molded the body.

I can tell you it was a magic time, we had the team, the shop and the customers that let us build cars like no others! It was a ton of fun and for a car guy like me a dream.

I always liked the Smoothster. That stainless trim that extends from the grill all the way down the lines of the body is classy.

Chezoom. Man, I hadn't thought about that car in a minute! I remember the original Ninja wheels it had on it. I've never seen version 2.0 besides the wheel change I guess.



Chezoom's style always reminded me of another car that will live forever...Caddzilla!!

i've never really like the style of Chezoom, but Cadzilla was (and still is) the coolest car ever built.

I also think 'zilla was and is the ultimate custom. I'm still interested in seeing how CheZoom was changed... outside of the wheels, I can't see why someone would change that car.

Do you remember working on the 1/4 scale model of the Chezoom? The Chezoom and also the Aluma Coupe were made in 1/4 scale for PR purposes.

Funny... I was talking with John, the painter at Best of Show, the other day, and we got onto the subject of Chezoom. I'm not sure he knows where the car is now, but I know he had to repaint at least part of it a couple of times. I think the last time he worked on it might have been before Barrett Jackson though.
