Having the cowl hood painted finally.

Before Christmas I took the Monte to a painter to see if he could match the maroon on the front of the Monte. We looked through some paint chips & came to the conclusion that there was a GM color from the 80's that was close. I think it was called Flame Red, or Flame something. So he had it mixed & I stopped by about the time he was going to paiint it & he opened the can & stirred it, it WASN'T EVEN CLOSE to the color in the book, or the car. so he was going to look through more chips & while he was doing that I took a shot & searched through Facebook for a guys name that I found in the car on a Super Chevy registration. Oddly enough I found the guy who painted it & he said the color was from an 80's BMW. So I let the painter know & he found it. So he goes back to the paint shop to have it mixed, half way through the mixing they ran out of black tint & had to get it from another town. So today I stop by to look at it & he has 5 coats of paint & 4 coats of clear on it & will be wet sanding & polishing today. Right now in the pic it looks much shinier than the car, but he said he was going to polish some on the car & the hood will be a little hazier once done.

      Original look:

I decided not to paint the scallops again on the hood & just go with the solid maroon color.

In the pic the hood looks more wine colored than the rest of the car, but in person it is real close.
