      Vinny's 68 camaro Shocked runs 9's

guys, its been awhile but vinnys 68 camaro shocked, just went 9.98 at 138.47 in the 1/4 mile at atco drag way. Pretty unreal for a pro touring street car.
We will post video later of the run. heres a pic and stats

      1.53 60 ft
      [email protected] in the 8th
[email protected] in the 1/4 mile

This is on a 100 shot, his progressive controller died last week and he is on a wot switch, he spins coming out of hole with nx armed, so on his 9.98 run he armed it just after launch, lol Once new controller comes in he will run it on 200 shot but dial it in over a few seconds, should run 9.70s easy.

      Nice runs.

Looks like the wheel/tire combo was swapped. Was the suspension still PT? Adjusted the shocks, removed the front sway bar?

Sway bar remains attached. The car has air ride Technologies suspension so the only hardware that gets turned are lug nuts. Every other component remains exactly the same as the Auto-X, street or road course set-up. Process is as follows:

      -Swap Wheels/Tires and wheel spacers.
-Raise the rear to accommodate taller rear tires.
-Rebound of front air ride Shockwave adjusted to dead soft.
-Pre-load right rear bag as needed.

Hopefully, Vinnie can resist the 200 shot jets. Before this outing, peak oil pressure was down near 45 psi cold. You can only send a 496 big block up to 7000 rpm so many times before the bearings need freshening......

Wow....that is impressive! Way to go guys. My 489 has always had 50 psi max cold. It was built that way though. What's getting upgraded in the motor while it's apart?

Shhh.... Please don't say "apart". It's probably better to say "disassembled" until he makes it back to the shop. The rest of the engine is rock solid. It just needs to be freshened.

      Holy cr@p! That's BAD@$$! That's a sweet quarter mile for any car, but especially for a Pro-Touring car. I wonder if that's a record for a Pro-Touring car? Congratulations!

I wonder what's going wrong with the pressure. My 433 is like 90 psi max cold. A buddy had 45 PSI too, but his was like that from the get-go. He didn't notice during assembly, but a main cap nut was a tiny bit too big and was keeping the oil pump from seating against the cap surface.

yeah its been 3 years of abuse, so its time to check valve springs, mains and rods etc as it is more race motor then street motor.
Theres nothing like hearing this thing at 7200 rpm thru the 3 inch oval exhaust and spin tech mufflers.

it has a reg pump not hv. bearings are calico coated and were all sized at .0025
pressure is 45 cold at idle, and goes up to 55-60 at rpm which is about what it has always done, maybe 5-10 psi lower , its way cheaper and easier to freshen it then rebuild it.

engine hp is 680-700 flywheel, 530-550 rwhp
runs 10.60 flat at 131-132 on motor.

Sounds like plenty of pressure to me. Hot oil pressure at idle is where you will see your difference if you have bearing wear. Pretty radical setup, better safe than sorry I agree....
