We clear a lot of wheels. The only issue with clearing over a polished wheel is sometime it can show a little of a orange peel affect.

I had a intake manifold powder coated clear and it was yellowed from the baking process. I dont know if it was prepped wrong but it didnt stay that way.

I've seen clears applied too thick that turn yellow. A uniform thin coat seems to stay clear, but it can be tricky to apply.

i was also told about some paint clear that eastwood makes. some people say it works good. but i like to see things before i do it. mainly because the wheels are not cheap and if it dont look good then i'm stuck, unless i powder coat with a color and i dont wont to really do that. i like billet but i dont like to clean it.

hell if somebody know of a good cleaner that is easy to do then i might go that way too.

I clear powder coated my new fuel tank but stayed away from clear powder coating anything polished or billet if I could avoid it. My March Serpentine system is clear powder coated, and I wish it were not.

I wonder if it can be applied in a matte finish. (???)

the eastwood stuff is called diamond clear and it looks good. One of my employees brushed all of his billet under the hood of his 90 notch mustang and it looks good.

Yep, it can be matte or gloss and like others have mentioned here, for best results and long term adhesion, you should prep it by media/sand/bead-blasting or satin finishing the aluminum, whichever one you prefer since it is clear and will show.

My Boze wheels are have a clear powder coat on them. The lips are polished and the centers are brushed. The lips loose just a little glosss but it is well worth the cost if you plan to drive the car. They are very easy to clean and never need polishing.

When I first got them I thought they left the clear coat off. I called Frank to complain. However, if you look really close, you can tell they are cleared. They look really good.
