      Newbie and new project

My name is Scott I just recently bought a 1965 Corvair Monza with a 140Hp motor and a 4spd. I plan on making a pro-touring car out of it. I was largely inspired by Tony's 66 Corvair. I really like the way his car turned out.

      Here's my starting point.

Wow, you are starting with a way clean car. Please keep us informed on progress. I love the uniqueness of Corvairs. My buddy in High School had a pretty cool one.

Welcome! Nice car to start with. Check out the Corvair wagon that just went through Barrett Jackson this weekend.

Thanks for the welcome!. I saw that Lakewood it was really nice!

I have always liked this body style Corvair. It seems to be a great car. Lots of parts still available and not very expensive. As soon as I sell my two motorcycles I will have some funds to blow on the car...I can hardly wait.

my friend sold one at barret jackson a few years ago. Twin turbo designed by a chevy engineer in the 60's. Interesting car if you want inspiration.

      Project update.
Got the motor cleaned up and carbs rebuilt, brakes completely rebuilt, door hinges replaced, new steering wheel, new tires and (temporary) wheels. AND...drum rolll...I drove it around the block!! woo hoo!.
It starts and stops! Its running (not great, but running).

      before

      after

(still using drum brakes for now)

I still have a huge amount of stuff to fix and ad but its coming along.

Ebay... apple289 is the seller. I had to contact him to get one for the Corvair as he doesn't list those.

      Corvair

Congrats on your purchase. I've always liked that model. So just one question, is it going to have a mid-engine LS7 or front engine LS7 ?

      Thanks!!
..well for now I'll keep the 140/4 carb engine and maybe later on I'll go mid-engine LS7.

Looks like a great project, the BMW projector lights give it a very different look, nice idea.
