      My 1986 C10 Driver

I finally got to a resting point on the truck for now.. I'm running 3" drop springs, and shackle/hanger kit in the rear for a 4" drop there. Added Nitro Drop shocks.. (shoulda went with Bilstein) and next up I'm going to upgrade the front sway bar and add a rear to stiffen up the handling.

The wheels are 15x10 alloys on 295/50's all around, with a factory center cap.

Drivetrain is a GM crate 350 and TBI induction, dual gas tanks. 700-R4 and 3:42 rear.

Great looking truck. That is one of the few body styles that I still think looks great with 15 inch wheels and I like what you did with yours to dress it up some.

Looks great. 295 up front....that's a lot of tire. I do like the OEM center caps on the blacked out alloys though. My only suggestion is to lose the gun rack. LOL.

Yes its a lot of tire, but I wanted to be able to rotate the tires front to back.. the truck gets driven a lot. The good news is that, despite how it appears, there's NO rubbing whatsoever. I can hit a dip and take the corners with no worries of bottoming out or gashing the tires.

The gun rack will 'disappear' when I tint the windows.

Thats the cool part about that series of truck, nice big wheelwells.

Here is mine with the same drop and 245/50/17, would have gone bigger on the tires but they all got to be way too tall or really low profile and with those big wheelwells to fill. Mine isn't as low in the rear due to being a heavy half truck, I even pulled leafs to get it down.

Very nice.. I love the step sides. The Nitto 450 275/50-17's look nice on a 17x8 and are 29" tall so they'd fit well too.

When this set wear out that was the next size I was going to look at, I just hope that it doesn't get dropped between now and then.

Tony what back spacing are you running on those wheels? I plan on putting that same size tire and wheels on my truck, I just need to know what back spacing to run... I hear that 4.5 is as much as you can go in the front. Sweet truck by the way.

Thats what mine has for backspacing, I could possibly go a bit more depending on the tire height.

Go to a wrecking yard and get the sway bars off of a 1 ton Dually. Same size or bigger than any of the aftermarket bars that you'll find and a lot cheaper. I found that the rear bar was not necessary. But I had a Blazer, shorter wheel base and more weight in the rear. I was also about 3" lower than you are. I had also shortened my lower control arms in the front to get rid of the stack of shims that you get when you lower these trucks among other things. This also tucks the tires back to the stock location so you don't have any rubbing or cutting issues. One more way to get more height out of the rear without flipping the axel is to switch to a set of stock 4x4 springs with the over loads removed. They do not have as much arch in them as the 2 wheel drive springs have.

Ron are the 4x4 springs the 52" long or the 56" ones like the heavy half uses? Right now I have the 56" with 3 leafs pulled out along with drop brakets to get to my ride height.

I think they are the 52" long springs. I never actually measured them. They are almost flat. Those heavy half spring are bad when you are trying to lower a truck. I also had a 76 fleet side at the same time I had the Blazer. It was flipped with the heavy half ton springs and it still had plenty of travel even without a notch. the rear fender was right on the top of a 295 50 15. I actually bought the 4x4 springs thinking they were all the same and when I flipped my blazer the rear fender was down at the rim height. I ended up notching the frame and the bed between the fender wells for clearance. I had 15 x 12 wheels with 305 50 15 Euro TAs on it. when all said and done it sat with the fender lip about 1/2" down over the rim.

Thanks Ron.. good info right there.
Yes, thats the issue.. no weight in the rear at all so I was going to try a rear bar to see if that helps.
