Newbie College Student with DREAM Car

Hey guys, I'm Charles from Fort Worth, TX. I'm a college student with a million ideas/wants for my new project. I just bought an X44 4 speed manual 69 Camaro. I just dropped my 427 BBC off to be magnafluxed and checked out so I can begin getting it built up. I'm having a one piece floor being put in right now with new rear quarters, outer rocker, and trunk pan. I'm wanting to run the 427 with a T56 behind it and avent figured out what gear ratio for the rear gm 12 bolt yet. I want to run 18 or 19's on the front and a 20 on the rear with atleast a 3 in lip on it maybe 4 idk yet. I want to run an air suspension, but don't know if I'll have to just drop it then bag it later. I'm a current college student with little basic repair knowledge, but cars are almost equal with women for me ! lol. I went to the last SEMA show in Vegas and have a million more ideas before I went to the show so hopefully y'all can help me out with my project and as I learn I could help someone else in the process. Thanks guys !!

whats your plans with it? Drag race, auto X , or just a cruiser?
Drag racing, use a lower gear. Depends on how power you have.
auto Xing, something mid 3 series
and cruising the streets daily driver, 3.50-3.73-3.90-4.11 are acceptable with the 6 speed.

Just idea's. Other people can chime in with their idea's.

A lot has to do with tq and hp.

Great to see another fellow college student at work. I have found out the more detail you include in what direction you want to go with your project, the easier it will be for the members to help you. Good luck with your build. Hope to do a 1st gen sometime.

I'm waiting to see where my motor ends up at when it's completed before I decide on ratio. I'm wanting a daily driver, but with plenty get up and go without taking out top speed either though. I'm the same guy that wants it all ! lol. I'm wanting a good driver that gets decent top speed with lots of leave ya at the light power.

If you do some searches on the site you will see tons of discussion of the T56 and gear ratios! Seriously, your question has been debated to death.

I'm probably biased but I think the most common gear ratio used behind a T56 is 3.73s. But if your motor won't lug down to 1500/1600 rpms then 3.73's or numerically lower will result in a 6th gear usable only at speeds far in excess of the legal limit. If use go with 4.11's it will help the 6th gear but you will find plenty of debate about what 4.11's do to your first gear ratio too.

This assumes you pick up a pull out T56 with the .50 6th gear.

      Welcome to the site.
