Look @ www.ls1tech.com/forums under the hybrids/conversions section, you can find your answers there.

And no, the LS1 F-body pan isn't the best out there. Those honours prob. have to go to the ATS pan. Unfortunately it is only being made in batches and currently on back order. Good second choice would be the Champ/Autokraft Pan.

      Good luck.

I just cut the notch 2" from the front and 2" for the bottom. Yes the other pans are nice if you have a deep wallet....

I think Canton makes a pan that doesn't have to be notched..

For some reason Canton has them down as drag pans but they have trap door baffles and all the good stuff for handling.

And modify the pick up tube...

It's a time versus money deal.. unless you can cut and weld it yourself (a good RELIABLE weld on aluminum) then it's not that bad to buy a ready to go pan.

Oh, prices for the Canton pans are cheaper on places like Summit.

The f-body pan is fine if modified, of couse I'm not sure if this work with the cut-up pan.

This add a full trap-door baffle system to a factory f-body pan:

watch the aftermarket pans, many need filter relocation. Not that is a big deal, just added cost. IIRC the autokrafters one allows you to run filter in stock location. Also I think Street & Performance has an exchange program for modified f-body plans.

Very true.. that can add quite a bit to the cost.

However.. I love how easy my oil changes are with the remote filter.. that alone was worth the cost .. lol

I would go autokraft, I had a great experience with buying and install. I also had a GTO oil pan so street and preformance would not do an exchange so autokraft became the best bang for the buck with me.

Also keep in mind, when you cut the stock f-body pan you lose oil capasity and if you run an oil cooler it helps with more oil storage, but if you add an Accusump tank from Canton, then you could prelube before start-up and hold a few more quarts than an uncut stock pan.

Cool.....I have stock steering to, and I was thinking of running the edelbrock mounts and headers. Where does the mounts place the motor? I read where some place the motor in same as original SBC some forward and some back...Just curious. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for all the input guys! I went to our local GM parts dept. and I dont know how he did it, but he got me a new f-body pan for 125. out the door. We have a awesome tig welder in town who said he would do the notch for me for 40. I dont have deep pockets as asked above so this seemed the least expensive route to go. Again...Thanks!

What's so hard about an oil change with the filter in the stock location? Not trying to be an ass, I just really don't see how it can be any easier...

I mean you're already under the car to drain the pan, so...

I dont mind the oil filter being in the stock location... I agree...you are already under there. Of course I have never had one in any other location so?? I wont have to change the oil but maybe a couple times a year. Im in Indiana and my car is parked all winter.
