Define "LOW"

I was cruising to grocery store tonight (kids start school tomorrow, got to eat) and saw a newer Chevy half ton. It had a bout a ½” drop on it with some hideous 15X10 REVERSE American rags and 295/50R15’s. The reason I even bring this beast up is the license plate read “LOW CRUZN”. My Elco sits 3.5” off the asphalt at the front cross member and is coming down another inch next month. My 96 Chevy C1500 had a 5/7 drop kit and was going to drop more before I decided to sell it. What is “low”? I’ve seen trucks lower than this guys rig after a trip in Home Depot (Lowe’s just for Cody). I wouldn’t rag on his POS if it didn’t have the totally unsafe reverse wheels on it and he wasn’t “low-riding” (laid out in the seat) going grocery shopping.

Dennis, watch how low you go. Do you remember what the legal ride height is? Yeah, it's supposed to be above a certain height.

I once heard that the universal lowest height allowed was if you let the air out of the tires that the car would not touch the ground.

Lots of places are higher than that more than likely but as they say; it is better to check than be impounded. Remember that they like to impound cars in some states,counties and cities and you car may never come back the same if at all.

The rule in CA is the center of headlamp must be 24" off the ground and no part of the frame or suspension may hang below the wheel (if you lost air pressure nothing would scrape the asphalt). I wasn't looking for a legal explanation, I meant how low do have to be before you can proclaim yourself "LOW".

Low is having to bring a ruler or measuring tape with you when you go floor jack shopping.

Nah ... low is having to have 2x6s lying around in the garage so's you can make a ramp to drive onto so you can get the floor jack under the car.

That is a good idea. I have 2 different jacks because mine car is so low a regular floor jack wont fit under the front.
