      My mom passed away. =(

Over the last 6 months, my mom's health had been fading. You may have noticed my lack of participation on the boards. Taking care of mom had become a full time job for my dad, brother and I. Sadly her mind went first. She was moving around, but had no idea who we were or what was going on. The line between reality and her imagination was impossible to distinguish. She'd have moments of clarity. Last Sunday, I sat with her and we talked for a good 30 minutes about what was going on in my life. She hugged me, I told her I loved her, and to take care of herself. The following friday she woke up very sick, coughing up blood. They rushed her to the hospital and she never woke up again.

The last few days have been surreal. Funeral prep, etc. Somehow I got the job of writing the Obit, and the Eulogy. Hardest thing I had to do ever.

The service was perfect, and the party after was nice. She'd have been real happy to see all the people who came. She'd always wanted to entertain a crowd like that at her house.

Now, I have to worry about my dad. His Parkinson's is winning. He has a hard time getting dressed. My mom had to help him, so he called his doc and asked for a new round of therapy. They said they would let him in. My brother and I have decided that we need to work on a new project with him, to keep him busy. He's got a 57 chevy 210 in the back of the shop that needs a total rebuild. So that's the plan, scrounge up whatever we can and get wrenching as a family, and build it in her honor and start as soon as possible on it.

I'll be detailing the build as we get going.

Thanks for letting me rant. I needed to vent.

/tell your loved ones you love them. Hug them. You'll be real glad you did.

Sorry to hear that Tony. My thoughts go out to you and your Dad.

I was in a simular situation with my Mom. I helped take care of her until her passing back in 2004.

It's difficult. They spend all their time, money, energy, and love watching us grow into adults and then we have to watch them getting older and less able to help themselves. But, we give them what they gave us. Unconditional love and care.

It's nice that you had some quality time with her beforehand. I fortunately had the same with my Mother. So many are lost without that being possible due to accidents, heart attacks, strokes, etc.

Naturally it'll be tough but she'll always be there in your memory. You'll miss her but she'll never be totally gone.

You are not alone my friend. I am dreading he day this happens to me and I know it is closing in. They are both getting older and my mom has a host of health problems. And I know that my dad won't hold on without her. That last real day you had with her was a gift. Cherish that memory. I had something similar in that when my grandmother passed I got to sit with her. She insisted on staying in the home with her friends. SHe knew it was time and was going to die on her terms. I sat with her on the bed, holding her up so she could go with dignity. Being able to be with her when she went was a gift I will always cherish. I am sorry for your loss, but she is in a better place now.
