Hey, I did lift it out of the crate all by myself!

But, true, it doesn't really fit w the light weight theme of my build. Truth is if I hadn't already scored it on here from another member, for a great price, for another project... I would have probably been better off with a TKO-600.

On the other hand, I do really like the T56. Even though she is a little hefty, and 2 overdrives are possibly overkill for a street legal race car.

Is fitting a ZF6 even possible in the C4?

Never mind.... I thought the ZF was a transaxle unit.

      Shaun,

I don't know if you know this or not,But the 98 heads are taller than the 99 up heads. If you plan on running the 243s you need to install them for measuring .

That is going to be a sweet car. Keep at it.

Awesome project, as a former C4 owner I always liked driving my C4 over the C5 I owned but the LS1 is so easy to make power on.

ZF made the S6-40 as the factory 6 speed for the 89+ C4s. The trans is not a transaxle.

      http://www.zfdoc.com/techinfo.htm

I believe ZF also made some 5speeds for GM trucks. They are also more famous for making transaxles.

The ZF6 is heavier than the T56 by about 20 lbs been there with a ZF

FYI Ron @Vengeance had some 99+ Coil packs and valve covers for sale on the southern classifieds section of LS1tech if you need them

I had an impressively engineered and fabricated car drop by. Jim Nilson's "Cormaro". This is a 67 Camaro with complete 85 front and rear Z-51 Corvette suspension installed (along with a custom subframe, firewall and floor). He even kept the Corvette engine set-back. This car was completely fabricated in his home garage!! He stopped by, I drooled over his car, and he gave me some pointers on my project.

I also took some measurements on engine placement. I was wondering how offset the original SBC was offset to the passenger side. My factory engine mounts were cut off by the previous swapper. Looks like ~2" offset to passenger. Crank centerline was 15 1/4" from the frame driver, and 13 1/4" to passenger frame as measured along the cross bar in front of the engine (the pic is taken from an angle).

      Any one have differing info?

Also, not sure if I mentioned, but I picked up a D44. So lately I dropped out the 3.73 geared D36 (for sale). Now the vette sits on stands entirely w/out a driveline...

I'll get picks of the new driveline on the floor next time I get garage time.

Oh, and my Melrose headers are in the mail. I cannot wait to get those!

I am glad you enjoyed the time as much as I did and thankyou for the compliments about the Cormaro.

I really liked the look of your wheel on my car and it really makes me think about the all aluminum color instead of the black centers. The wide look was really great from the rear too.

I look forward to helping you get that engine set in place with some good mounts.

It's going to be a great year to go racing!

      Keep in touch

I received some more goodies in the mail over the last couple days.

My Melrose LS1/C4 swap headers came in. I am impressed. Build quality and hardware are top notch! I ordered mine uncoated. I want to go flat black with them. I intend to use header paint. If that fails, I can always get them coated later.

I also received my C5 front brake brackets. I got them from a forum member. Again, build quality and hardware were impressive. I mounted them on some 85 spindles I picked up (because 84s have smaller/weaker mounting bolts). Although I do not yet have my new rotors or hub/bearings so a full mach-up will have to wait.

Spindles came shockingly clean, and cleverly bolted together for shipping.

Also, since I have the D36 (and entire rear suspension) out... I have been drooling over Banski Motorsports' C4 rear suspension parts.

What can I say... I have a soft spot for quality USA made parts!

Those headers look really nice. They don't look anything like my Corvette headers, lol.

Things look like they are coming along and you will have a lot to start mocking up and checking the fittment and space for Clarence to show up.

I have my eye on your scrap pile ,lol.

Thanks! Sorry for the late response.

I recently sold my (subtle) Z28. So the rush is on to finish this build. I have done a bunch of work. When I get a little free time I will update my progress w some pics.

      Here is a teaser:

I have the entire rear suspension out (actually the entire drive-line) along with the rear facia, bumper support and gas tank. The New (to me ) D44 was checked out at the shop. Banski rear suspension is in the mail.

I have finally started the re-assembly process by installing the new Classic Tube fuel line.

The rush is on. I hope to race the car at 2 events in September.

Hi Shaun, It's good to see some progress on the Vette.

You sure have a bunch more room without the Z/28.

I am looking forward to seeing it at the track and if all goes well I will be there too.It seems everytime I think the car is ready it comes up with another problem. The clutch isn't holding up to the new engine but should be fixed in the next week or so. Which dates for the events are you going to?

I am still contemplating going with the 11 in. wheels and 315's. I looked at the pic of your wheel on the car on my cellphone just last night and was drooling again. My car desperately needs new tires to get a better grip, the ones I have are only getting to .85 g right now with the alignment and no rear sway bar.

I'll be talking to you soon, I will be coming up to Janesville to check out a Hooters girl for a photoshoot if all goes well. I want to stop by and see the Vette progress.

I feel your pain. I had a Monterey Maroon Metallic Z28 and the family still refers to it as my "purple car" There was a color during the LT1 years that had more purple to it. I liked my MMM Z28 and mis it daily.
