Source for rear lowering coils, A-Body

I have Hotchkis rear lowering coils now, which are about 1" drop from stock.



I want to go at least 1 - 1.5" lower. So I need a spring with 2 - 2.5" of drop... Suggestion on where to look for this? I want a performance orientated spring rate, whatever that may be..? I believe the Hotchkis are 135 lbs per inch.

I'd cut them, but with pigtails on each end, that isn't an option.



I see OPG has them, but I don't know what the spring rate is.

I have Hyperco springs from Speedway Motors. Specifically these. I run the 175 rate. There is a 150 rate. They run about $50 each.

The springs are 11 inches long with a single pigtail and work with my 68 spring pockets. This drops the rear quite a bit:



The rear tires are 26.4 inches tall.

They also have 12 inch springs here for a little less drop.

Stock springs are about 14 inches long with about a 120 rate.

Thanks Jon, I'll look into those! I have a 27.5 tire in the back, and I'd like about 1/2" of sidewall to be tucked in the wheel well.

Our rear rate for the 2" drop springs are 175 lbs/inch. We initially tested softer spring rates around 145-155 if I remember correctly but ended up choosing the 175 lb. rate because it reduced understeer, providing a better match to our front rates. The difference in ride quality between the softer springs and the 175 lb. springs was very minimal. What front springs are you running now?

If you like the Hotchkis springs you have now but just want to go lower, you might be interested in knowing that we are working on a 2" drop spring for A and G bodies right now. We had a lot of customer requests for a 2" drop spring, and we do try to keep people happy. We're about two months out right now, but if you call the tech line, you can get more information.

Global West tends to run slightly higher springrates so if I had to guess I would say their front springs are probably a little over 600 lb/in. or somewhere right around there. A 175 lb spring for the rear would be a pretty good match for that spring if your car is fairly close to the OE front/rear weights.

Well I actually installed a set of air ride Technologies CoolRide on my 71 Monte Carlo, with single lines to rear bumper, and that was by far the best mod I ever did, I could drop it or air it up with simple rechargeable compressor, and heck I carried 4 blocks, 6 sets of heads and 5 or 6 cranks in trunk and just added air.
My Caprice will get them too, at least its big enough I can use it all the way around .

I just love AirRide over steel. Several people said it would never work, no one would buy it, it was for fairgrounds, etc. And that was from a member on here. Guess they may have been slightly wrong.

I thought about air ride, but the $500+ price tag isn't doable right now.

BMR - What is the advantage of your coils over the coils from Speedway Motorsports?

The 11" hypercoils from speedway ended up being to short for me so I sent them back and ordered EIBACH from Summit Racing.

I am running the same style spring in 175, but bought them from southwest speed as they are a bit cheaper. See sig for stance.

Got the Eibachs installed and they worked out perfect.Not ready to install the front yet because I want to wait untill I get the SC&C stage 2 plus.

Quick update with the 11" Hyperco coils in 175 in/lbs rating. Sits right how I want it now. Top of the tire is tucked about 1/2" into the wheel well. Perfect.

In the future, you can always call eaton detroit springs. They will pretty much make whatever you want.
