tripping to Vegas

Ok long story short, four of us are going to Vegas Oct 23-25 for me. The others will be out there on the 21st. I've been through the airport once before going to Canada/Seattle and that's about it. This time I'll be there for basically two days and want to do this as cheaply as possible. I'm curious to know some of the less touristy places to visit. Not interested in spending my hours in a casino really. We're all poor for the most part so going to various shows is quickly looking like it is out of our price range. I'd love to see Circ De Soliel but those aren't cheap from what we found. I was thinking about maybe going to the Hoover Dam. What are some other suggestions? Sources for cheap tickets is great too. I'm not against seeing some of the main tourist attractions, I just figure that will quickly eat up the virtually nonexistent budget.

Valley of Fire, and Spring Mountain Ranch come to mind

Another vote for Valley of Fire is awesome. Awesome roads, simply awesome! Go to Jasons Deli and get a couple to go lunch boxes mid morning then head to Valley of Fire (hour drive) and find yourself a killer rock formation to eat lunch on!

Find you a room in downtown Vegas, it is pretty nice, not the strip, but nice and there are super cheap $1 blackjack tables and nickel slots if you want to play cheap for a couple hours. There are also cheaper shows there, you will have to look around on diiferent websites, but avoid the big time shows if on a budget.

Red Rock loop is a 13 mile loop with places to hike and climb. I think its $10 per car load to get in.

Last time I was out that way(Valley of Fire) I about got bucked off the road on my bike. Not sure if they have fixed it yet as it was in the works. If you take the I15 then it's just fine. You can get there through Lake Mead and that's a really nice drive but the road may be a little rough. I intend to find out soon because Frank is right, it's one of the best spots around.

Last month I took my Mother (for her 60th B-Bay) to see Phantom of the Opera and I must say I was impressed. I am not a fan of the movie , book or any opera but it was the best show I have seen in Vegas. Tickets were about $70.00 each

Ka at MGM is worth the money to see. Best circ show in my opinion but haven't seen Love yet.

Even if you're not planning on hitting the casinos, it's an interesting site to walk the strip. Days and nights are completely different experiences. I've never really seen the interest in gambling, although I did manage to win $100 from a street hustler while I was there.

Right now rooms are dirt cheap in Vegas. I just booked a few nights at the Luxor for $40 week rate and $60 weekend. If you do end up staying at a hotel with shows, you can usually get a pretty healthy discount on tickets at that location.

As far as non-touristy stuff, Redrock is awesome.

I hesitate to say, but there is a Museum of Protitution in Parumph. Never been there- i'd be afraid they'd just have a lot of really old......stuff

If you get down to Victorville, there's the Exotic World Museum. Wife and i were out at Silverlake and followed a couple old cars heading for the museum car show.... We went through the museum (focus on strippers and burlesque), and you know how they have gift shops at the exit? Well the cashier was about a million years old.... and in a teddy.

Oh yeah, I forgot you can pet the Tigers at MGM free also. Really cool deal. Be warned, you will probably buy a picture, but you should!

I like to get the tour of the dam and visit the better brothels.
(if you're on a tight budget, you might want to avoid the brothels)

Luxor is at the very end of the strip ..i always liked to stay in the middle easier to get around..ive stayed at the imperial palace its usually always on the cheaper end and is retty decent..
