does flat black show swirls ? i want to paint my camaro black but i dont want to have to deal with all the swirls and the tendency to show scratches very easily! and flat black has a sort of shine or clear coat to it right?? and how does the texture feel when its painted??? thanks dom

shows scratches WORSE than gloss..

and you can do flat clear coating.

what would you consider this?? satin?? i like how its flat in color but has a shine to it as well! this is how i would paint it, MR. Vengeance did u have a clear coat on the gto? cuz ur car was one of the reasons i want to paint mine flat black

Just an FYI if you do goes this route it looks badass but it's hard to keep it that way. You can't just go buff out scratches and put wax on it. The way I did mine was satin black with a single stage paint. I'm thinking of doing a different paint next time in the future. It's really hard to keep swirls or any imperfections awa it feels just like paint there is no texture also. You will have to put flattener in the clear f you go this route as well , if your going flat try hot hues black from dupont

what we always did for a guys race car was have 33% flatener added to the paint nad it came out very nice, he used the cleaner/polish/wax for black bumpers and it looked ok but I would talk to paint companies first, see what they recommend.

Oh yeah Harley Davidson is selling bikes in what they call Denim, BUT it gets character flaws and most guys buying it get it cause it "wears" in to a look rather than destroying the shine on new paint.

Another option would be to have your car wrapped in flat black vinyl. I've seen this done on a new Nissan GTR and it looked great. I've been told that the vinyl lasts 5-7 years. Just long enough change your mind and color too? Just a thought.

That black car in post 3 is a vinyl wrap. In fact most of the exotics you see in satin are wraps so getting that look in paint is next to impossible.

i dont know what to do guys!!!! the car is gunna be ready to be painted in like 2 weeks or lesss! i am torn between flat black or gm artic white like camaro x was before it was painted blue. thanks guys for all your opinions, i just like to have a second thought from someone else

There was a site that showed a step by step wrap of a Ferrari from red to satin black but heck if I can find it now. The red was obvious when you opened the doors.

I was set on satin for a while but I really don't like the streaks plus if I needed a patch repaired the shade will be off. Here's a nice thread on satin paint jobs. Even so, notice how obvious the spray overlaps between panels are.

You can mix clear with any amount of gloss you want. It may be a little bit of a chore to maintain, but it's always possible. The only thing you'll be missing is a little bit of the texture you're seeing in the vinyl

camaro x is exactly what i am going to do! same kind of setup with the color scheme and all, because i just think black is going to be a big pain, but thanks guys for all your help

Not sure Mr. V. I'm in Alpharetta and I always see a truck wrapped, marketing vehicle wraps. If the web site wasn't so long I'd be able to remember it!!!! I just try not to wreck when I'm trying to read it while driving. I was actually thinking about doing this to my M3, because the new BMW paint is HORRIBLE, and I'm tired of trying to buff out scratches and water spots.
