      Installing Body Mounts - Help?

I just got a set of Aluminum Body Mounts from Summit Racing today and I want to put them on my 67 Camaro.

I have never changed the body mounts out before and before I go "hog wild" I figure I would ask you guys what method and/or logical process that needs to be followed when changing them out.

Help or suggestions would be great.. Thanks!

First, spray the bolts with Liquid Wrench every day for several days before starting.
Do all three on one side at a time, that way you should not cause any mis-alignment of the body.

The key is jack and jack stand placement.

Jack up one side and just loosen all 3 bolts.
Lower the car and jack up the other side as high as possible.
Place a 2x4 length-wise between rocker & subframe and lower car onto jackstand under 2x4.
Remove all three bolts on that side.
Now lower the jack (slowly) until the frame separates enough to get the bushings out.
At this point, the body is being held up by the jackstand & 2x4.
Replace with the new ones, but do not tighten the down all the way.
Repeat process on the other side.
After all 6 are installed, torque them down 90lbs or so.

      Make sense?

My wife and I just got done doing this on our 80 Camaro. Use the procedure above. It isn't bad if the cage nuts don't break loose! We had 2 out of 4 break. Had to take out the drivers side inner fender to get one, and took out the driver's seat and used a hole saw to cut a hole in the floor to get the other... But the difference in the chassis is huge with them replaced! Most of ours were completely rotted out and the subframe was actually moving around...

77thor - Sounds good. I will print this out and use it as a guide.

I noticed one thing today and I kinda scratched my head a little and was thinking "hmmm"...

I bought this from Summit Racing - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CEE-3027/

The above kit has a total of 6 pieces.

When I looked under the car today here is what I found...

      - Each of the 4 body mount locations has 2 pieces each and they are sandwiched in there.

      - Radiator location has 1 piece each.

That means I would need a total of 10 pieces to complete the body mount and radiator mount locations. Why in the world would they sell me a 6 piece kit? That makes no sense to me... Do I "NOT" sandwich the pieces together like the rubber bushings when using the aluminum type that I bought or ?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

EDIT: I just read the online instructions for the aluminum bushings and it says to use the old top rubber bushing as the bottom bushing. If I am going to go through the mess of doing this I want all new bushings - not a mix of new/old. I am going to have to order some rubber bushings as well I guess. Might as well order the whole bushing kit so I have new bolts, washers, etc... I can't see doing stuff half azzzed

been using these for 10 years. I used a thick washer on the bottom with no problems. Dont put the rubber section in there.

Ahhh good to know... I guess by using the thick washer you are really making it a solid mount, because otherwise I would assume the rubber would still have "some" flex overall. Thanks man.

correct. Also When using frame ties you want a solid mount.

You should have bought a more complete kit- one that includes all new bolts and washers (like Global West kit)
and 2 pieces for each mounting point.
