Weighed my LS1 1st gen

So I was caught in traffic right by a weigh scale and I decided to weigh my car.

It weighed 1570 kg = 3460 lbs.

This was without myself in the car and about 1/2 tank of fuel.

I thought the car would be a couple hundred pounds less but I have a full stereo in the back (box, amps, subs) and the car has full sound deadening under the roof skin, door skins and complete floor pan, firewall and door panels.

My 71 Firebird w/ Pontiac 461 (iron heads, aluminum intake), TH350, and stock 10 bolt weighs 3526 with a half tank in it (and no driver).

We just weighed a '69 Camaro with an iron head SBC with aluminum intake, stock disc brakes, 1/2 gas, TH400, and it came to 3450.

my LS1 T-56 69 Camaro with DSE tubs, front Suspension and tank, big brakes, wheels, Moser 12 Bolt the whole 9 yards was 3570# full tank with me in it..

Velocity is 3385 with an aluminum LS7, a ZF 6 speed, stock front subframe and a 9" Ford rearend [without me in it]. The TigerCage is 125lbs.
Must be all that hot air that makes it light!

Interesting to see what different combos weigh. I might ditch my stereo as I NEVER even listen to it. Biggest waste of $$$ IMO

Not to Hijack but I am looking to get my car as light as possible (gen 1 fbody) Here are a few things I have done.

Glass inner fenders, AC delete LS alum motor ATS spindles soilovers all around
Plans carbon hood trunk and valance.
May do.. Aluminum fenders.

Any other ways to trim a few pounds?

wow, that does seem a bit heavy, granted my car does not have a/c or power windows, but it's 300# lighter, and the richmond tranny and steel safety bellhousing I'm using should be a good bit heavier than the T56.

Check into everything you are putting on the car... wheel /tire weight varries a ton, 20's are heavy. Skip the a/c, maybe the heater core, brake rotor and caliper weights, tranny, you name it. Rear ends, 8.5" 10 bolts are lighter than 12 bolts or ford 9", etc. Alum or carbon fiber drive shaft, don't run a console, speedglass, oh it's just endless. -Dan

No A/C or power windows either. But I do have a stock heater setup.

I agree, I'm going to ditch the audio setup soon. I NEVER use it anyways. So yours is around 3150 with an Alum Block SBC? I am sure fuel weighs alot too. Was your car full or empty when you weighed it? Do you have any sound deadening installed?

That does seem a tad heavy Ryan, but weren't the '69s heavier than the '67-'68 cars? I could be mistaken. Check with Rupp. I think his car was around 3200.

Never knew that. I am running a stock subframe, steering/steering box and 12-bolt w/ leafs out back vs all the aftermarket suspension/frame Rupp has. I am sure I could lose 100 lbs by ditching my audio setup.

3/4+ tank of fuel (it was full at the start of the day at the strip, but it's thirsty too!), no dynamat but a couple heat insulation blankets and one design engineering heat cloth under the front carpet section for floor heat, also inside the console and under the back seat. So partly insulated.

Since then I should be down another 15# dropped in the flyweel.

A couple things helping this car over the ls for weight- very little wiring, mech fuel pump and a single fuel feed, no cage. But it does have 2x2 tubing frame ties and the rear unibody taken out and replaced with 2x3 box tubing. No leaf springs though, that drops some weight. I remember weighing the leafs and they were really heavy (3 leaf stack.) Anyone know the shipping weight on leaf springs? -Dan

Edit- anyone know the weight of the ls1 without the accessories on it? the 'old' sbc in alum is 355#, I'm thinking the ls1 is heavier?
