      Ready for a LQ4 in my Nova...kinda

      Hi everybody,

I finally decided to swap some LSX power into my 62 Nova wagon.
I found an LQ4 and a 4L80E. I have a TCI front clip in my wagon right now, so that will make things much easier. I've also found an LS6 intake manifold with fuel rail to reduce the overall height of the engine, and I found an F-body oil pan to add some more clearance between the road and the oil pan. I think I'll be purchasing a Painless wiring harness or a S&P harness to connect everything, and have the computer reflashed. I'd rather use a Big Stuff 3 system, but that's about $1000 to the cost.

As far as accessories on the engine, I want to see if the stock alt and a/c
compressor fit. I don't have lots of cash to throw around.

Presently, I have some concern over my oil pan. There are two non-oem looking holes about the oil filter location. Can anyone tell me if the my oil pan is useless with those holes, or is that some type of modification to allow for more oil flow?

Those holes should feed the oil filter. The pan I have has holes there. They look different, but are in those two spots.

I hope the holes are factory, but I don't understand why GM wouldn't just
drill all the way through the material.

      Thanks for the reply.

The holes are definitely factory, otherwise the oil wouldn't be able to get to the oil filter. The oil filter pad is integrated into the oil pan on these engines.

If it bothers you that the one seems to be partially blocked then smooth out the transition and remove the casting flash with a die grinder.

The old engine ran fine with it the way is is now and yours will too.

Good luck with the swap, I'm right in the middle of an LS3 swap myself.

      Thanks

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll keep the pan, and will try to make that hole a little more smooth.

      Thanks again,

      Matt
