1967 or 1969 ?

I have narrowed my search for a 1st Gen. P.T. car down to 2 cars.
One is a 1967 the other is a 1969.
Lets assume for the puposes of this discussion that these cars
are otherwise identical..

I am interested in the differences in regards to:
1) resale
2) Modibility (not a real word you know what I mean)
cost and availability of parts. Inherent limitations by model year.
3)comfort (interior dimensions,etc..)
4) any other advantages or disadvantages between these two years?

Price is going to be the diferance between these two cars, the 69 is going to cost more but will also have a higher resale value. Other then that it's just what you prefer.

I personally would pic the 67 just becuase there are less PT 67's out there. It seems when I first got to this site...there were lots of 69's...now it seems EVERYONE has a 68. 69 will always have a higher resale value....they always have since Ive seen them forsale....just a personal preference really. also, most stuff as far as suspension, and that all seem to be 67-69...nothing really ONLY for 69's, or 67's....etc. examples are upper control arms, mini tubs...etc. all seem to be first gen, not one year in particular.

69s will cost you more up front, but will also have a higher resale, as mentioned already.

The '69s will also accept a slightly wider rear tire without modifications.

As for parts, both of them are equal. No limitations there. Interior space is identical, and comfort will depend on which seats you put in the car more than anything.

Don't rule out the 1st gen Firebirds either. Those sell for even less than the 67-68 Camaros, and are just as easy to modify. A well-built Pro-touring Firebird will also probably attract more media/magazine attention than a Camaro. Guess what my next project will be ;)

I always wanted a 69, but ended up with my 68 after i could not find one I liked. You can mod either one just as easy as the other. The 69 as said before will command more money and a quicker sale. I like the Firebird idea. I have a 69 here just waiting to be redone. Right not you can buy a nice Firebird for half of a Camaro needing work.

That's the same thing that happened to me. Oddly enough, I now like 68's better than 69s.

As for the 67/69 idea, I'd say it's all personal preference. You can mod either one just as easy, and the availability of parts is huge for both. Don't rule out a '68 either. There's not much different between a '67 and '68. Vent windows, staggered shocks, and different lights come to mind, but there's not much else different. My advice would be to buy whichever car you can find that is a solid car and at a good price.

I like the gauge cluster in the 67-8, but the one year only, gorgeous, sexy bodystyle of the 69.
And I'm not biased!

The squared off wheelwells of 69's make them a little easier to lower (ride height).

But in the end, you should buy which ever car is in better condition. Buy whichever car will serve as a better starting point.

Depending on what you need, the availability of reproduction parts for 69s is greater than the 67 and 68. Probably becasue they are worth more in value, it's easier to justify spending money on restoring one. I say pick the one that looks coolest to you.

Is this a fact that can be proven? I've seen plenty of 67's and 68's that have gone for huge dollars just as the 69's do.

I love 69's but now I will have a 68.. go figure..

Better on a 67-67:

1. like the straight dash pad better
2. like the metal on the top of the door better
3. the more rounded body lines look more classic

Better on a 69:
1 the main dash cluster is more upgradable (DSE)
2. the sharper body lines look more modern
3. the best looking frontend of any car in history is an RS 69 frontend..

It really comes down to personal preference.. both can be made to look very cool.. pic the one that has the best paint/body and go from there.

I would prefer a 67. Since the 69's are commanding more money, its just a matter of time and economics before the 67's narrow the resale margin. I agree the 69's as a whole look better, especially the SS/RS, but when a 67 is done right, it can look just as good. Also, its the first year the Camaro was made! Thats got to mean something!

being a 67 owner i wouldn’t want it any other way! i love the interior of this year. The no side marker lights...the classy and very functional vent windows. I also like the headlights...nothing cooler to me then the two round headlights one big one and one smaller one on either side. to me the 67 is a much cleaner looking body then any of the other years. I also like the round wheel openings better then the 69 style. I love all F bodies but the 67 Camaro is my absolute favorite

I had a '67. Hated the vent windows. The '69 body style never really did it for me. Now I have a '68. I'm content, after I shave the handles/locks and side marker lights :icon996:

I like 67's just a little more because they have vent windows which are a dream when cruising wihtout a/c. No markers clean it up alot. I also like the round gauges and the simple dash lay out. Plus you never really see alot of pt first year camaros.

I like 69's becaus ethe have alot more sharp lines in the body and alot more parts available.

I've owned a 69' SS and a 67' RS/SS. I prefer the looks of the 69' if it has the RS package. I don't know why but my favorite Camaro would be a 68' RS/SS, and it's the one year I haven't owned yet. Go figure......
