Purpose of the spring stack? Just to seat the spring or serve any other purpose?

Basically just to keep the spring seated all full droop.

Cool, see them on off-raod long travel shocks but don't recall seeing them on a road car. Let us know if you are happy with the new spring rates or still feel there is more dialing in to do.

Next race is the 20th of OCT. I will have a write up after that.

My daughters first race car. She even painted it herself.

The install for the power steering:

First I had to install rivnuts into the frame for the power ram bracket.

      Installed

      Comparison of manual vs power.

Everything is in mock up and I noticed some problems. The inner tie rod hits the control valve, this was expected and parts are on order. Unexpectedly the ram hits the headers so a drop bracket is on order. That will be a temporary fix until I fab something with a rod end.

How to install the rear fiberglass valance:

      End result.

I started with a 1.5" wide 1/4" thick bar of aluminum.

I drilled and tapped 4 holes to 3/8-24 then cut to 4" long. I rounded the edges and roughed up the surface to promote adhesion.

I stalled studs (set screws) these are epoxied as well to ensure they don't back out. The allen drive makes sure they wont spin.

I epoxied the aluminum plates to the valance aligned with the stock bumper bracket. I let that cure then covered with two plies of woven fiberglass.
Its a solid attachment and allows for easy install and adjustments.

Eventually I will remake the stock brackets out of aluminum and make one a tow hook.

Bryce, I see you doubling your spring rates in the future, on all four corners (for autocross). It would be interesting to see how you'd work with a rear sway bar first, however...

On a side note, is there some engineering math you might do that would indicate how much difference your spring rates make after adding some torsional rigidity (cage/bar) to your frame/body?

I agree with what you are saying. I will need some really stiff springs and even a stiffer front sway bar. I have a custom one designed up but not sure if I will get it built yet. In the rear there is just no space to put a sway bar..... I may put one in the trunk with really long sway bar end links. But that is in the future and probably not in the scope of this car.

The chassis stiffness would be a result from some stiffness testing and would be too hard to calculate unless I designed the entire car in a CAD program, again not within the scope of this car. The chassis flexing would be an issue and stiffining it would make the shocks springs and sway bar more effective.

I know your not doing a Muatang II install, but I thought there was some good info in this thread on Torsional rigidity.

Well I have not been on here in a while. I hope everyone's project is going well. I have been trying to get the falcon back on the road....

I got the power steering almost all sorted out and everything is installed. Only tested in the garage and I think I like it. Very little slop and with the adjustable flow KRC pump I should be able to dial in the tuning as I start to drive it.

      A few issues.....

The steering ram wanted to be in the same location as my long tube headers. SO I order a drop bracket thinking it would work with a little bit of modifications. But when I tested the stiffness installed into the car, the frame flexed due to the longer torque arm. Now I will be designing a much better bracket that will wrap the frame and use a rod end instead of rubber bushings. I will make it from aluminum and it will look cool. LOL.

I am hoping to make the November 17th SCCA event and get the car ready for the Goodguys event in Del Mar.

I just read this thread, cool car! In part, I was reading it to get ideas for improving my car's steering feel and accuracy. Then I saw your comment here...

This is what I did, though I made it out of steel in lieu of aluminum (See Pic - I have no idea why it's upside down!).

I'd like to hear your thoughts after you get this setup installed and functional. I'm leaning towards upgrading to the Borgeson integral unit, but can't seem to find anyone who has reviewed it's performance after install.

Nice approach. I decided to make the rodend a double shear attachement and I am trying to grab all 3 steering box bolts. pictures will be up after I finish building.

To hijack momentarily, there's been a ton of discussion on the Borgeson power steering setup on both the Vintage Mustang Forum and TFFN (Falcons), among others. Bryce has also offered several comments here in his massive thread (and elsewhere)--it's worth the digging, if you have the time. While I have always disliked fluid/belt-driven power steering, many of the discussion points (and my existing rack, sans bent parts that were eventually replaced) helped me to decide on the electric route. Craig510, one of the guys competing in the GoodGuys championship this month in his '63 Falcon (driving there from northern CA, not towing), has a Borgeson unit, and he seems to like it...
