      Hello - 69 camaro prostreet

Hello everyone. Love the great info and cars on this board. I actually have a pro street 69 camaro but admire and appreciate the protouring cars too - lots of great ideas and cool cars I've seen.

Look forward to hanging out here some!
      Chad

Welcome to the site, Chad. Nice Camaro (and garage)!

Ya know, in the future, if you planned and executed your modifications just right, you would still have most of the Pro-Street 1/4 mile performance you have now whilst adding many of the benefits of the Pro-Touring genre. Just sayin'...

      Either way, though, nice car!

Thanks! You're exactly right - I'm here to watch and learn. I'd love to combine the best of both into a great street machine. I guess it would be modern prostreet? My next focus will probably be going with the hydraboost brake set up and power steering too. Not having power brakes is not so fun. Need to get my front suspension up to snuff too though...hmmm. So many mods, so little money!

Modern Pro-Street is probably what I would call it as well. I hear ya on the mods vs. money! It really is too bad that it doesn't grow on trees. But yeah, stuff like the hydraboost steup, power steering, etc. will really go a long way into making the car more of a modern street machine. A new or modified front clip will make a world of difference in the handling department as well. You might look into doing the Guldstrand mod to your stock subframe for a cheap, but effective handling modification. In the end, though, ya gotta go with what makes you happy when you drive it.

Personally, I would also look into adding overdrive as well if your budget allows (and if you can find a tranny you're happy with that will still handle the power), so that you can still cruise happily on the highway, even with the 4:56 rear.

Hell, maybe down the road you might even consider going with some 17" wheels for the street for better ride / handling and saving the big and skinnies for business time at the track. With the new (actually, they're not really new anymore) Mickey Thompson drag radials, you can run some pretty huge meats on a 17" wheel and still hook up pretty good. I don't know all of their sizes off the top of my head, but I do know that they've got stuff much wider than 345mm section width, so you can still fill up those tubs.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to get you to totally change your build here. The car is a beaut as is, I'm just shootin' the **** on a rainy Sunday...

Shoot no, I love hearing ideas like that. I wouldn't be trolling the protouring forums in my prostreet for nothing ha ha. I really enjoy a great handling machine too. I had an 06 viper and loved it. I would love to merge that kind of power and handling into a really cool, ageless, muscle car. I think I got the power part figured out so it will be fun to get the handling better over time too. I really have a blast in my camaro as-is so it will only be more enjoyable as I add to it. If I ever got "finished" I'd get bored anyway...

Nice toy. Have you got to run it at the track yet?

No, the nearest dragstrip is too far to drive it and I don't own a trailer yet. The guy I bought it from said it ran 10:50 and I'd belive it! I'd like to get down the strip for fun sometime but I really enjoy having it on the street to play with. I've always wanted a racecar on the street. Check.
