widest wheels on a 65 falcon

i have a 65 falcon and a 95 mustang and i got creative last weekend. i decided to put my 95 mustang wheels on my 65 falcon. they are 16x7.5 with a 245/50/16 tire. The back fit perfect with a 1/2" spacer. I have stock drums in the back of the falcon so a disc would space this differently (smaller spacer). I was impressed because most places you read up on falcon and with leafs the largest back tire is a 225 on a 7" rim. The front i had previously tried and the wheels fit also with a 1/2" spacer with some turning loss due to contact at full turn and full compression. so my plan is to swap wheels form falcon to mustang (i know the falcon wheels will fit the mustang) and try it out and see the handling difference. I will be upgrading form a 215 tire. I will get a better wit if i run a lower series tire.

just thought I would post my discovery for anyone with a falcon. I know there are a few on here.

thank you. I will lower the back another two inches and then even out the front. Trying to dial it all in.

      thank you.

And thanks for the help you have given as i was making my decision. these wheels are the absolute widest i can fit on the falcon with leafs in the back. It was the best of both worlds as now i can get a set of 275s and 315s on my 95 mustang. and i dont have to buy two sets of wheels.

going with 16s really helped with the tire selection for the falcon as well. 245/50/16 probably the most popular tire size ever.

A new update, I was able to fit 275/40/17 tires on a 17x9.5 wheel with 6.5" backspace. Without the leafs and the 3-link installed and a watts link the tires fit great.

Hey Bryce, is that with stock wells or was there some "massaging" involved?

Look like my hooker super comps under my 64 falcon. Hang really low! Haha

Hey brice check you PM inbox... and interesting cuz I saw two falcons recently that had a 16x8 and a 17x8 for the rears with a 26" tall by 9.6" wide tire and they seem to fit really well actually. Under full compression I think the guy said they rub but doesn't seem like a deal breaker.

so is that on a stock wheel well? I really just wanted to bring this thread back alive after all these years.

I am feeling like 275’s on a 17 all around on the ranchero is all I’ll get due to not many tire options for 17’s these days.
