Possible paint scheme idea, opinions wanted

My project car is an '86 Mustang coupe, and I would like to give it a sort of "retro" paint scheme. The Fox platform doesn't lend itself well to most of the older style Boss or Mach 1 stripes, but I've always liked the looks of the scca Trans-Am cars from the late '60 to early '70s. I'd like do black out the hood area like some of those Mustangs from that era.

Here's what I'm trying to describe:

For the record this is what my car looks like, minus the air dam I just added.

This is the air dam on this car:

The spoiler I've been working on:

The color I plan on going with:

Finally the look I'm going for on a random crudely chopped Google'd car:

Any thoughts or input? Sorry for so many pics, my photoshop skills are pretty bad, otherwise I would have tried to incorporate the pics into one car. I'd appreciate any opinions yay or nay.

I usually love the vintage trans-am paint schemes, but not feeling this one. What if you carried the black all the way over the top and to the back? That would look more balanced...but I'm sure it's been done a lot on other cars (I've seen first-gen camaros like that).
