      AEM Water/Methanol injection kit

      I noticed an add for this and wanted to share. Looks like a pretty well rounded kit. $550.00 with the 5-gallon tank, 50/50 water-methanol compatible, safety features, and it's universal. Any thoughts?

      looks nice, but more expensive than most the others like Snow, Devils Own, etc. which all have comparable features. Also not sure where you'd mount a 5 gallon reservoir on most cars (picture a 5 gallon gas can). These systems work well though.

      Snow

      I use a Snow kit on my 4Runner & have now started building my own. I do know a drag-racer who uses the AEM kit to great success- with a different resevoir.

      Once you use them, you'll never go back- it's cheap power & protection.

      I'll check out the snow kit, the safety features of the AEM are what caught my eye. The Monte is a long way from even being started, looking to put a bid on a quick sail house here soon. just trying to get a parts list and a real world budget assembled. Thanks for the comments.

      HMMM $550 for a water injection, Ill stick with the system I can build for a lot less and invest some cash in a wideband also.Besides safety features can be built into a self built system.

      As stated, I too think this kit is way over-priced. I build my own methanol kits and they are not expensive to build. I have quite a bit of experience with water power on a variety of levels. I even put a methanol kit on my wife's 1999 Caravan-it smoothed out the idle and the mid range-upper RPM torque was substantially increased. It was weird having a minivan that had pretty quick off-idle acceleration from the start-my wife gave me the "what did you do" look when I took her for a drive in it. lol Anyway, I can't get into all the info here but let me stress-there is a LOT of supressed knowledge on water, methanol, etc. and it's effect on a combustion engine. I've been doing a lot of experimenting and there's so much people should know-and I am realizing this through my own trial/error.
      At any rate, I install my methanol kits using the PCV hose as a vacuum source for routing the methanol/water mist into the engine so it enters gradually under all load conditions. I use a stainless 1/2" tube epoxied to my container and I use stainless mesh shavings to catch heavy oil deposits. The goal of these kits have many features but the two most important are: cleaning the engine of carbon depsoits and reducing the engines sensitivity to detonation. That's why it aids forced induction motors so well, but even naturally aspirated engines can stand to benefit form it. Water expands as it is heated/compressed so this is where part of the power increase comes from, then there's the higher octane rating of the intake charge combined with being able to advance timing. All this while reducing emissions. Really great stuff! I work with my own water fuel assist designs and this methanol kit is but a step towards water power tuning for me but the benefits are vast-water is truly a fascinating power adder that most people can't grasp the possibilities of. Try it and you'll be hooked!

      I was thinking about getting one of those systems. I was talking with a guy about them that is going to be tuning my engine on his dyno when I finally finish (4 years and counting). Anyway, he said that they are more of a pain than they are worth. Main problem: evaporation. So my water/alcohol ratio would change when the vehicle sits unused for a couple weeks. Plus if my engine is tuned to take advantage of the W/A injection and I have an empty reservoir, then I'm SOL.

      Any comments on this?

      AIS Alcohol Injection systems is the only one that allows braided hose and -4 AN fittings with the nozzles and a trick looking trunk mount reservoir.





      My previous water/meth set up had leaks and brittle hoses due to the adverse conditions in the engine bay. This will not be an issue with an fittings.

      Call them and they'll talk you through an custom set up for your application as opposed to selling to a DIY style set of plastic fish tank hose and a windscreen washer bottler.
