At a different track day I figured out thru the timer that I was wasting time frantically up and down shifting when in fact I was smoother-faster by leaving the car in a higher gear. Felt slower but was actually faster.
You looked like you going like hell down the straight.. sound great at WOT. Amazing how quiet the blower is. Autocross is like that too.. the faster laps are the ones that feel slower (and we all know how much you love autocross!)

Our 2010 needs and exhaust system.. just too quiet.

Now that we have been there. Let's talk about the track. This was my first time running this configuration and it is now my favorite. I'm having a hard time figuring out a single favorite spot is.

      My favorites are:

The Esses backwords and not having to slow down for the Sweeper as with 13 CCW.

      The float over Lost Hill

      Riverside and Truck Stop

      Bus Stop

BTW I think my best time was a 13:56.99, and I have no excuses. The hamsters were running hard. Congrat's Aaron you beat me!

I think CCW is a lot harder than CW.. but it did have some real fun segments.. getting lite over the hill was one of them.

Curtis, my time was recorded in minutes... your time was recorded in seconds... Oh yeah, i didn't see any hamsters under your hood either. Wasn't that a rat???

I rather enjoyed the Esses as well. But after looking at Steve's video i see i didn't go through them quite as straight as Dave did.

that 270 degree turn really made my tire rub issue evident. Trying to avoid rubbing ment i had to crawl through there. I really enjoyed the straight way, at least that was one turn i could drive wide open!

Yes, unfortunately that is me, DavidN. I went off twice, thanks to my traction control not wanting to go into Competition Mode. The damn thing kept fighting me and wanting to go straight. Was really fun in the Riverside turn. Finally got it into CM later. Of course it goes in no problem now that I'm home. I went off here instead of fighting it and possibly heading to the inside wall. I had just passed a car and came in kinda hard and bad line.

      Steve,

I agree for all turns except Riverside. This one is considerable harder CW as it is a decreasing radius turn in that direction.

There's going to be a couple of track events at Laguna Seca in December. We get great weather that time of year and the organizers are excellent. Very safe and fun events. We can definitely hold a BBQ at our house in the shop for everyone and have plenty of floor room for anyone that wants to sleeping bag it.

The GreenFlaggers are also hosting a two-day track day at Buttonwillow over Thanksgiving weekend. Check their site for further information.

I had a total blast last Friday and can't wait for more.

I took it easy, actually did the speed limit most of the way, and it took about 3 1/2 hours, stopping to eat. Not too bad, traffic was easy most of the way, for a Friday.

That's becuase it looks so cool swinging back and forth!

Actually, that's my one big "poser" deal.. the main fire pull doesn't work.

When we did the interior the lines were supposed to be laid under the carpet. It was forgotten. Since then I've figured out how to run the lines, but I haven't had the time. Recently I added a cross bar to my cage and now I have a place to mount the bottle.

It will be working by SEMA. Cutting holes in my floor is more important at this point.

That would be me! I built my car myself (still not finished) and drove it to the event. I have to tell you just sharing space with purpose built cars is intimidating, but at the same time i was quite proud to be able to say i ran this event (albeit in the driving school class) with you guys.

      Aaron,

What did you think of NCRC's driving school? Could you go over what they taught you in the classroom and on the track, and how comfortable do you feel on the track after a day in the school? It looked like they let you folks free to run by the third session. If they did what kind of restrictions did they have during these sessions? Most of all did you consider it a good experience? Hopefully you will join most of the folks in Solo next time. I know that the first track day is a very big step.

Bring it to Laguna Seca, and open some eyes about the abilities of that beast! I'd love to see it taking a Ferrari on the front straight.

Bring it on the race tires.. Laguna Seca is on my list.. that's one track that's way past my skill level, but it would be fun!

Not for long. Laguna is actually pretty easy, and I know a coach is available to show you the ropes if you desire. You'll be clipping them off like a lawn mower in no time. Make sure the brakes are in order with plently of cool air ducted to them. The place absolutely kills brakes. On the flip side BIG POWER pays off in Gold Bars, and you've got that.

The driver training was very informative. They could have condensed the first couple of sessions and given us more free time (my only complaint), but they did give us good info. The first session was about driving on a track, what line to drive, where to pass, how to be passed, when to brake/accelorate etc. When they allowed us on the track we were required to pace the instructor. We were suppose to learn the track and the lines. Then we each took turns allowing others to pass which demonstrated the pass as well as gave each of us an opportunity to follow the instructor using the correct line.

the second session was about the flags, what they mean, what we are supposed to do, etc. that time on the track we were supposed to have remembered what each flag ment and respond accordingly. I forgot what the heck the black flag ment until the 4th lap and they nearly stood on the track to get me to come in... No instructor on the track with us

the third instruction was about passing, when and where. when we were allowed on the track we were separated into groups of 4-5 cars and were required to pass each other all over the track (when appropriate). We also had an instructor on the track who we could either point by or give the finger to. we were actually told to give them the finger if they were trying to pass when not appropriate; i should have used the finger!

      No more instruction.

the next two track sessions were open to drive freely. I was very tired by then and eventually threw the belt and was ready to call it a day.

All in all, the instruction was very useful. it helped to learn the track, how to drive it (as if you could actually remember the best line for each turn) and the basic track stuff like passing and flags. I could see how not taking the instruction could get you into trouble. You have to give up a lot of free time but worth it.
