      Idler Arm Relocation

I installed an alternator relocation bracket meant for a fourth gen F-body on my LT1 motor which resides in my S10. I had heard there would be interference with the frame. I was okay with cutting the frame so I bought the kit and got to work. The notch was much larger than expected (see pictures). But that's okay because I'm getting ready to box in this area...

...But then I had to keep cutting. And cut some more. And finally I got to within 1/4" of where the bracket needed to reside. Unfortunately that was directly in the path of the idler arm bracket that bolts to the frame. So I notched the idler arm bracket.

Now my problem is that the two rattle against each other and it's really loud and obnoxious. It's transferring sound to the frame. Ehhhhh...

I want to relocate my idler arm bracket. I basically want to "swing" it 90-degrees toward the front of the truck.

So my question is this: As long as I keep the "axis" of the idler arm the same as well as the "height" of the pivot point the same...WILL THIS BE OKAY??

Hopefully someone like Marcus will see this and chime in as I bet this setup is similar to G-body stuff...

Just beginning my cut for the notch:

      Thinking I'm getting close here:

I had to go a little bigger than planned:

I want to unbolt the idler-arm bracket from the frame and swing it forward.

      Unbolted:

Swung forward with a mock-up bracket:

Any feedback on this? Good, bad, indifferent??

      TIA

If the pivot axis is the same, should have no impact...

I see no problem with it.

      Correct.

Just ensure you use additional bracing as the current single bent piece doesn't appear substantial enough.

Yeah, that's just thin tin so I could get a template to take to the metal shop. Good idea on the reinforcing.
