      Distributor recommendation

Looking for an "All-in-one " distributor for my 69.
The HEI units are too big and the #3 & 6 wires keep popping out.
Looking to stay away from MSD boxes, coils , etc.

      Thanks.

why is the HEI too big? that is one of the best dissies out there. if your looking to stay away from "boxes" then the HEI is about your only bet.

      Hei

Well, I have a smoothed firewall and I dont know if the clearance is less because of it, but the cap is up against the firewall and those two wires wont stay in place.
I have tried a different set of wires.

      Thanks.

stock size cap of what? the stock HEI? then he will still have the same problem he has now.

personally, use an after market small cap dist, and use a box mounted up under the dash area.

you will have no clearance problems, and everything will be plug and play.

If you can mount the coil externally and you don't want any type of multiple spark option an MSD Ready-to-Run should work fine. Mine worked flawlessly. For an all-in-one unit, including coil, the HEI is about the only game in town.

Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) in Memphis Tennessee makes very nice HEI distributors that are standard size and small head size. Not cheap China versions. Specifically built for your application and engine parameters with unique modules for spark control. They also make superb alternators and 16 volt dry cell batteries for race cars.

I ran a "DUI" HEI in my FORD GT 350 vintage race car for 10 years with absolutely NO problems or issues. One 12 gauge 12 volt wire hook up is all you need. I also used their GM racing 1 wire alternator on my FORD race car. Again, never a problem in 10 years.

A fabulous way to go if you want the convience of an HEI distributor system. Ask about their small cap DUI HEI distributors.

Just installed one of these in a 67 vette with a zz383. I really liked it and the features are pretty cool. And Nooo, its not the same size as an HEI, its the same if not smaller than a traditional dist.
