ok, I tried to post some pics here and met with a problem. under additional options (below) is the place to add pics. there are 5 spaces in which to put 5 pictures. I uploaded 5 pictures into these 5 spaces and got an error, (I'm assuming too large) I resized each picture to the 1600 x 1200 pixels. Can you post pics this way, or do you have to use something like Photobucket? I have 9 pictures to post for a rear end ID. Also, how do you put a caption under each pic to indicate what the pic is of?
      Thanks
      Carl

OK, I think I've got this figured out.....I hope! Any way here goes.

      I believe this is C 2

This is of the carrier I think it's 32212 you might want to look for yourself.

      view showing the spring pads

      Just a side view

      View showing numbers GM 77

Casting numbers 3896839 with a N under the numbers

Casting number C27 (sorry it's upside down)

Passenger side axle tube numbers KAX068W71
After trying to figure out how to do this, halfway through this my 13 year old comes into the room and while I'm looking at pictures on Photobucket says "you know you can copy the img codes and put those pictures on Protouring don't you?" .................smart aleck!

It's a truck 12 bolt. Looks like a 3 series Eaton case. There will be a casting number next to the bearing on the side opposite of the ring gear flange. Check it for cracks. The Eaton truck cases were very bad about cracking.

This arrow points to the area where they usually crack.

      Thanks big gear head,
I thought trucks used coil springs and not leaf, goes to show what I know. Any idea on how old or what it fit? I'm hoping I can use it on my '68 Camaro.
      Carl

edit..I was hoping for a 4 series, I'm wanting to use 3.73 gears and I think I'd need a 4 series to make them work

Yep looks like a truck housing. Parts a little harder to find than car 12 bolt stuff.

Just need to measure it flange to flange compared to the original rear end,bet it's longer. Not sure the availability of after market axles that are shorter.

It could be anywhere from a '71 to '82. It will not fit your Camaro as it is. You will have to narrow it, change the housing ends and spring perches. You will also have to get a set of axles for it. The Eaton case can be built with new parts, but I recommend that you replace it with a new Eaton. The new truck Eaton is MUCH stronger than the one that you have now. You can make this fit your Camaro, but it isn't going to be cheap or easy.

You can build this to fit your Camaro for around $1500 to $1600. A new Moser 12 bolt starts at $2010 with the same parts. The Moser is stronger, but how much strength do you need?

Big Gear Head, I recently got another rearend from a friend of a friend. This one (the guy told me) came out of a Chevelle modified with new spring perches to fit under a '69 Camaro. This one came with 4.10's, eaton Posi, 12 bolt, axles. I did give $500 for it and just finished knocking out all bearings and seals to be replaced. I figure my horse power to be between 400 and 500. thanks for your help.
