What to do about a gas pedal assembly?

They tell me a 6 cylinder gas pedal will work in a '68 but I can't find one anywhere. Then there's the Lokar stuff but I've never been too clear on what part numbers or how it should be installed, etc. I do have the gas pedal from my LS1/4L60E salvage, it is from a '99 Trans Am. Do you think I could modify that to work?

Other than that, what type of gas pedal are you guys using for your LS1 conversions into first gen camaros MINUS the fly-by-wire guys. I am not running fly-by-wire. Thanks.

I used a Lokar. I took it apart, and had it anodized black first though.

Tony, try to find a used 6 cyl gas pedal, it's so easy to make it work.

The pedal assembly is the same for 70's Nova's. I've used them from a '71 and a '73 in 1st gens so far. I'm not sure of the cutoff year though.

That's what I want to do but like I said I can't find one. At least a complete one. I had a guy from Camaros.net contact me that had one. He wanted $70 and it was missing the pad and the bracket to connect to the firewall. I told him to check the birth announcements in yesterday's paper to see if I'm in there. I'm pretty sure I'm not.

I used the factory pedal in the vette but it was an EFI car so it had the proper range already. For a cable Lokar makes an LS1 cable that is 30 something inches long. I even got it with the black sheath. I simply made it work with the stock pedal.

Now I also did EFI onto a 73 vette and used the factory gas pedal and an LT1 style Lokar cable. I had to bend the pedal in order to get full range at the TB. Luckily it wasn't much so it could still be used.

I also used the 6cyl pedal.
I can't tell by the picture it's a but fuzzy but this looks like a 6cyl setup.
      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-...ayphotohosting

I then called Lokar and told them what setup I was running and they told me what cable setup to use. The lokar cable took 5 minutes to adapt to the 6cyl pedal. And the first 4 minutes was opening the package...

I used the Lokar unit # bag-6094 bolts into factory holes, but I did a custom, understand might not be the look your after, if I have my original you an have it, just pay the shipping from jax, Fl, I'll look for it tommorow,,,,,
Also spoke to Lokar at the PRI show last week, since,I'm doing a LS1 conversion, they have a bracket to use with the cable, it's not in the catalog or web site, they are actually getting the part from SP..

I'd recommend staying away from the "early chevy" pedal that mounts into the factory location. Unless someone else shares a tried and true method for making the pedal rock solid. Otherwise I recommed the universal style.

I like the Lokar universal pedal. Super smooth and tight.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying the 6 cylinder pedal is unstable?

I think Charlies part number might be the ticket. It looks like it's for just the bar but that might be all I need. I could put my bracket and pedal on it from my V8 assembly and then just finish if off with a Lokar cable.

Ricks also is an option but I've heard some suspect things about them lately.

      Thanks for your help, everyone.

The 6 cyl. and Nova pedals are the same, and are not unstable, however they can bend some. They can be beefed up with a small gusset welded into the base of the upper arm for added strength.

I believe Chad was referring to the Lokar "Early Chevy" style gas pedals. Not the factory style ones.
