Holster for full size 1911?

How does it feel? Like you are carrying about a brick? Is the gun itself inside or outside your pants?

The gun is outside of your pants, you definetly know is there not as bad as a brick...does not feel any worse than my glock or my smith. I have an instructors belt making it easier to carry.

Blade-tech. They make a great holster. Use them for my full size HK USP .45

Problem is if you are talking CCW, a full size .45 is a hard gun to hide without a jacket or bulky shirt. Certainly hard to conceal in shorts and a t-shirt.

If you want CCW and can't hide it under a shirt, check out Tommy's gun packs. They work real well but can be bulky for full sized guns. But you can pull and draw down very fast with one.

I love anything made by Lou Alessi. Sadly he died recently. I don't know if someone is going to carry on his product line or not. I have a PCH for a railed 1911 full size and it is comfortable.

I have buddies who carry the Summer Special II from Milt Sparks and they really like that as well.

I like a leather holster better than the hard plastic but that is just me.

Raven Concealment rigs are supposed to be very well made too.

Depends how you want to carry it and for what. A lot of Officers that I work with carry the Blackhawk line on belt and paddle on and off duty. I prefer leather holsters from Galco for conceal carry. Galco also has a thermoplastic line called Matrix. Thermoplastic may be better if you sweat a lot and will be carrying a blued gun concealed. I work in the desert so the heat and blowing dust/dirt can cause some issues.

I use a Galco "Miami Classic" rig for cold weather... and... a Kramer 'SOB' for shorts and T-shirt weather in the Las Vegas summer for my Trident Percision Machine P-14 1911.

I use a Galco short 'SOB' for my Trident Percision Machine Spring Field Officers compact... but it too can also be used with my full size P-14.

If your skinny like I am. You can hide the 1911 with an inside waist band holster and a loose fitting shirt. You can combo with a T shirt to keep the gun off the skin and a loose fitting outer shirt. A close fitting belt holster will require a very loose shirt. Depending on your look, a holster vest may work, (not very fast action though). Do a goggle search for CCW carry and several sites will pop up and gives recommendations for holsters. What ever you get, you have to practice with it

Milt Sparks - Nelson Legacy is my favorite. They are kind of pricey, but well worth the cost. If you go to your local gun store most are willing to let you take a look at and try out most holsters.

I'm a big guy and I own A Para Ordinance p14 .45acp I use a concealed carry holster from Galco. It fits real nice in the small of my back. And with a loose t-shirt you can't see it at all. great holster slides out nice and smooth.

Try the F.I.S.T hand molded line. I have one and once broken in it does not get any better. Good luck.

Leather is more comfortable for an inside waist band holster, I tried the plastic did not like it, even the paddle tended to gouge me after a while, but again, I'm small. Some of my coworkers are larger and the plastic holsters with the paddle are fine with them. Maybe the local store will allow you to try it out for a few hours prior to laying out the cash. Just make sure you sit with pressure on it like a couch or car seat.

I carry a Colt Commander 1991A1 in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster (when I'm in a state other than NJ). Barely noticeable at about 5 o'clock on my strong side. I also have the velcro lined belt so the holster "clips" to the inside so there aren't any visible clips when I tuck my shirt in. I prefer the horsehide version since the lighter color camo's better under light clothing. But then, my grip is dark so I guess it doesn't really matter. I'd also look into bob-tailing your 1911. It makes a big difference if you carry IWB.

You live anywhere near Indianapolis? To bobtail one doesn't the frame have to be modified?

I have a Kimberr Custom II with magwell added.
