      GTO LS2 - 68 Camaro

I am about to pull the trigger on an LS2 engine and t56 out of a GTO for my 68 Camaro. Are their any issues with this swap that would be unique other than the typical LSx swap issues. Anything unique to this combo to deal with? I also plan to use the GTO accessories.

I put this combo in a 69 Camaro, not done yet though. My 2 cents worth:

Make sure your engine adapter plates and headers work together. I have ATS plates (turned upside down from ATS directions) and Stainless Works headers, I'm told on here that will work with no clearance issues but haven't verified myself yet.

I modified a stock LS1 oil pan and pickup myself, if I did it over again I would get the Autokraft pan and bolt it on and be done.

I'm using stock accessories for now, A/C wont fit though, not sure what I'm going to do, probably S&P kit to add A/C to main belt. My alternator hit the subframe a bit but I rotated the backhalf of the case around for clearance, then a little touchup with a grinder and it fit fine. This was done before I flipped the ATS motor plates upside down from their directions.

      Good luck,
      Erik

The frame can be notched to fit the A/C. Check for Lance-W's posts in the Project Updates section. He just finished his and it is very nice.

The GTO/F-body accessory drive fits very well.

The GTO engine harness is long enough to have the ECM mounted on the front-LH wheelwell.

Check my website for details on a very similar swap. There is also a thread in the Project Updates section. Do a search on Magnuson.

Rdplyr, I am going to do the same thing, but in my 1972 nova, I picked up a 2006 LS2 with 30,000 miles with the t-56 for a song, so instead of the ls3 pland I will be using the LS2 Combo, anyone point me in the right direction as there are so many articles here may have missed a few. Sorry if I hi-jacked your thread.

      Lance

It appears you have moved the A/C compressor forward to line up with the front crank pully to use 1 belt. Can you tell us what bracket and tensioner / idler pulleys you used? Did you fab your own bracket?

It's an S & P bracket. I'd tell you what page of their catalog it was on but big brother here at work won't let me download the catalog. It does move the compressor forward and you use one longer belt for everything. If I remember correctly the bracket and pulleys cost about $300

Thanks Lance... I'll check out their catalog. Do you know what type of compressor it is? Did you get it from S&P as well?
