Not necessarily, the Taurus and Mark VIII fans can draw upwards of 40 or 50 amps! These single fan units flow in the range of 4500 cfm, much more than the various aftermarket fans such as Spal, etc.

On my 2-speed Mark VIII fan I am running the low speed through the ECM with a 70 amp relay. The low speed will also kick in when the A/C pressure is high, through a second relay. High speed is controlled by a thermal switch on the engine, again through a 70 amp relay.
