Will the mini tub install process harm exterior paint?

I'm planning (within the next 6 mos or so) on buying a '67-'68 firebird that is "done". I will want to install my prefered wheels, so a mini tub will be needed. My question is, during the installation process, specifically the welding, will there be any welding near the exterior? I mean, will the welding harm the paint on the rear quarter, or will it be welded deep enough into the trunk area (off the existing well) that I need not wory about messing up the "done" paint?
