I think he is referring to the fact that the magazine is stapled together in the seam rather than being glued.

My question is: So, what difference does it make?

I hardly think that signifies that the end is near. Perfect binding is more expensive. I'm sure that like every other form of print media that their add revenues are down. Going back to staples is probably just a cost cutting measure.

It has been my observation they use staples until they reach a certain page count, then they step up to the glued binding.
If PHR has reverted to staples then I'm willing to bet it is also smaller.

It's technically called "Perfect Bound" and "Saddle Stitched"

It's hard to Perfect Bind a magazine that's 100 or less pages. Personally I prefer the stapled version since it opens nicer and lets us do the pull out poster deal.

I'm a life long newspaper guy. Started in the back shop, did 20 years as a photographer and have worked for a small town paper and the Associated Press. Let me tell you, the print media is struggling. Everyone thinks that they can get all the information worth having off the internet these days. They don't stop to think that anybody can write anything they want on the internet. The sad part is that most will take it as gospel. Folks, the internet has NO REGULATIONS and NO STANDARDS. They can lie to you all day long and laugh about it. At least newspapers and magazines have journalists who care if they're telling the truth.

And before anyone says anything, yes, I know we're our own worst enemy. Still, for the most part, journalists and newspapers are sincere about printing the truth. Go buy one and read it. You might learn something.

      (off my soapbox now)

Oh wow, good observation. Luckily though, both my April and May issues of PHR have the same 98 pages. I collect my magazines, so I really prefer the "perfect bound." When looking for a particular old issue, it's much easier to find.

Because the stapled issues fold closer to flat, those annoying subscription offers (which are actually really good deals except that every issue seems to have 20 of them) stuffed in the magazine jump out more easily.

You can say all you want about the printed PRESS Articles being more acurate. But, I will also say that the printed press and television media is a Joke. Of course, I am talking about the Current events, not the hobby magazines..

The internet, even though full of CRAP, you can still navigate some hidden truth from it. The news media today are going out of their way to say what they want, rather than what is necessary...

Please stay on topic.. this isn't about the "news" media and we don't want to go there since it will get political and a big-ass padlock..
