differences in coats

what is the difference between a wet mist coat,wet medium coat,and wet coat?and sometimes i see use a dry coat.

can anyone explain?

Typically these terms are used when talking about metallics and the various thickness of coats applied to eliminate tiger striping and the like. However "wet mist coat" is not one I've heard before.

the directions for my epoxy primer says apply a wet mist coat with 5 minutes flash time followed with a medium wet coat.no more than 3 medium coats.

Going by those instructions, I would think a wet mist coat would be a fast pass over the area, not trying to cover it all the first time. Then a slower pass the rest of the way. the term wet is describing how much material you are applying on the panel to give you a wet look. Just as dry would be the flow of material cut back to produce a dry look once it is applied to the panel. It is also used as described above in metallics, in which a dry coat would produce a flat look in the paint because the metallic would not be able to stand up completely as there wasn't enough material laid down to suspend it.
