      I'm hydroboost illiterate, info?

My truck has hydroboost on it but I don't fully understand how it works. I know it uses the power steering pump to power it somehow. So if I was looking for one to put on the Monte, what do I look for? Will it use the master cylinder I have?

If you want a no issues-bolt up deal, i bet hydratech has a setup for your monte. You could graft in a booster off another vehicle, but its a LOT of work.... Trust me.

Go to their website, and you will learn most of what you want to know there. They are a sponsor here, just look to the right.

Hydroboost systems use power steering system pressure to provide the braking assistance. They are the only way to go when space becomes as issue with a big block installation or aggressive cam that produces little to no vaccum. You can use your existing master, but if you have upgraded your braking system, you might consider upgrading the master as well. Hydratech recommends 1-1/8" bore masters with most systems. Hydratech has a bolt in kit already for your car so install should be straight foward. We have sold a bunch of them and never a complaint on braking performance.

Look at the first pic on my page. Explains the basic idea. It's just a single acting ram with a spool valve.
