Should be good for about 600 horsepower. He's mating that up to a 6 speed and painting it silver with red interior
please grab a pic of this car and share... 70 montego / cyclones
      are pretty cool...

Make it look like a stock Eliminator on the outside except change the side stripe to read "Terminator".
this is a great idea... Eliminators are great looking, and cougars
can still be had for a reasonable price.

re: DB's mention of Charlie Libby's Fairlane above... that
car is *excellent* -- I absolutely love it. But the "problem", so
to speak, is that it is so custom that it is nearly as unattainable to
me as a Troy or Chip car... but I'm hoping it will free Fairlanes
      from their roll of "drag-only"....

I still think a nice '72 Torino Sport/GT would be cool... Like this one I photochopped: lowered over a set of 17" & 18" slots or saltflats.

64 Mercury Comet. Crisper lines and cooler trim than the Falcon cohort. Hard to argue with the Torino, but man they are heavy. If you want it to fly, go as light as possible, makes EVERYTHING easier.

      Have a blast with it!

I am leaning toward a '67 or so Fairlane, but would like to get some other ideas. Any one have a an idea for a Ford PT Beast???
May I suggest a route that I am taking now. I suggest an '81-82 Ford Granada/Mercury Cougar (sedan, NOT XR-7, although one could make a case for the coolness of that project as well). If you can't obtain one of these, then I would suggest a Fox-Body LTD/Marquis. In my opinion for what it's worth, you can't go wrong with either one of these!
These cars share essential mechanicals with the 5.0 Mustang. Most any hot hop-up that would fit a Mustang will also fit a Granada.
Just one example of a hot, hopped-up Granada:

      Vinnie's Granada

Merely thinking outside of the box!

68 Torino GT COUPE (I personally think the Fast-backs are ugly, cars too big to be a fast back) Plus there are ALOT less GT coupes than there are GT fastbacks (3-1 ratio fastbacks-coupes). After the 70 malibu is done for my wife I'm hunting for a 67-68 Cougar or a 61-64 Falcon.

As a follow-up to my last posting under this thread, versions of the original Fox-Body (i.e., the Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr) Fords would also make excellent candidates for a Ford PT beast. The only reason why I was hesitant to mention these at the onset was because the early model Fairmonts/Zephyrs had really funky mechanicals, especially as it related to the fuel delivery system. If anyone wants to build a Ford PT beast based on an early Fairmont/Zephyr, they have to keep this in mind, especially if they swap to EFI.
However, like to Fox-Body Granada, what will fit a Mustang will fit a Fairmont with but a few exceptions.

I was gonna keep this one to myself, but I think it might be too cool to keep... If you wanna do something really unusual, consider a '67 german Ford Osi. My dad owns one of these, and I've always wanted to do something cool with it like this (another photochop):

that's a pretty cool car, but i think it reminds me more of a ferarri fighter than a PT car, but i could see the PT there as well.

In stock form, it's a pretty classic '60 European sportscar. I tried to photochop the PT into it... the big TTIIs, tangerine-strawberry paint, front spoiler, lowered, tinted windows, blacked out trim, shaved handles, etc... here is the original pic:

It's a German made Ford called an OSI (oh es eye, or ohsee) built in '67 & '68. The OSI company did the body design, Ford built 'em using German Capri bits (motor, some suspension stuff, etc.). Most parts are very difficult to locate since the car wasn't built in huge numbers. My father bought one while we were stationed in Germany in the early '80s for approximately $1800 US. It now sits in a barn in NC with an early Alfa Giulia, '65 GS convertible, '69 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, and a nice '74 F100 shortbed pickup. They're all in need of restoration and the barn is a dirt floored, barely standing, shack that hasn't been opened in a good 5 years. One day they will be mine!

Technically it's my shortbed since my coin paid for it... I think it was $500... I can't quite remember. I think about it occasionally, especially since it's got my Mach's original 351W (future 408???) sitting in the bed.

I've almost got my '69 Torino GT Fastback (sorry Rancherlee, I disagree on which one is more attractive) driveable. Plans are to lower it a bit more, get some discs out back and go corner carving. It already has swaybars, edelbrock shocks and 2" lowering springs that need to settle a bit.
