Toyota Supra engine into 1989 Transam?

I have been given a 1989 transam body. the body is in good condition as well as the interrior. it does not have a motor or transmission, however i have an old supra sitting in my barn gathering dust and rust. I am thinking motor swap. of course i will have to do a lot of fabricating, And i was wondering what yall use for fabbing brackets.

yeah im thinking i can do some good with a twin-turbo setup. the supra that the motor is in is really a fast car, but its so heavy.....i think the transam is lighter and they look better.

Is your Supra an american model with the M series engine? If so I wouldn't waste my time, unless you have an affinity for changing head gaskets.
I think the most common and worst reason for a build is "because I have it"
Now if you happen to have a Japanese spec 2JZ-GTE or something of the sort, you might be onto something...

Do it, I have a friend that's putting a 2JZ into an F-150 and pretty much put all the lightning things on the truck. He didnt have the heart to cut apart a good first gen lightning so he made one lol

why not sell the transam body and buy an old corolla or celica and throw it in there. It is lighter then the transam. Or find an old mG or triumph.

Which engine is it? Doubtful, but If you have a 2JZ-GTE sitting in the back, you're golden. That's a pretty stout engine w/ loads of potential and massive aftermarket support. Per wikipedia (not the gospel..just a reference), the 1989 235 hp Trans Am GTA has a curb weight of 3,600 lb. The mark II 82-86 Supra weighs in at 3,000 lbs, mark III 86.5–92 at 3,000 lbs, and the mark IV 92-on at 3,486 lbs. The weight issue doesn't seem to be on your side, but use what you have, and those numbers dont factor in the heft of the engines or weight ratio front to back.

EVS 2JZ powered 67 Camaro. Sick

Props to ICEBIRD84 for that video....never saw a earlier engine swapped into the muscle. Very interesting.

Thats cool, many arent aware that the Japanese motors can make ridiculous power especially that motor, the 2JZ awesome drag motor.

Im doing a similar build on a secret project but with another straight six twin turbo motor, hehe

I worked for Toyota Racing Development for 7 years and saw incredible things done to stock bottom end 7MGTE and 2JZ-GTE engines. I say go for it and make something that is unique. Dont worry that your car may be heavy, boost has a way of taking care of that. It's always fun to see the reaction of people staring at an import motor in a muscle car.

you got 2 options go single or twin turbo. Ive seen guys go balls to the walls with a T67 making up to 30 psi of boost. Im hoping to put a T28 on my 355 SBC and run 15 psi or a turbonetcis GTK big 5 inch inlet turbo
