Great story. 2 Firebirds in 1 trip. The red one you bought was on Portland craigslist a couple of times. You just passed by my neck of the woods. I'm in vancouver, just north of Portland.

Lucky dog! go buy a lotto ticket, for grins; pick out some numbers based on your trip, it would be an amazing coincidence, but seems like you are on a roll.

      Vegas would hate you.
      Great scores!

Can you say Pontiac? That was a awesome trip returning with two Birds and still got some pole action LOL.
Wondering what direction you will go on the Birds.

I've been itching for a 68 Bird as I have some ideas I didnt do to my 67 that I would prefer to start fresh on a new car....
I need to actually finish one of mine lol. But I keep finding cars that I can't pass up.

Well I've already got a 79 so I'm on my way lol. Nah the 70's were too many years. I'm DONE buyin cars!! (yeah right lol). I would like one more from the early 70's though.

What's funny is I didn't even realize, everyone calls the copper car red, so I now have "red", white, and blue 60's Firebirds. And I'd already planned to keep the 68 original and repaint the 67 white and the 69 a better blue.

Edit: That gives me an idea. We should get enough classic American cars together in red white and blue that we could park them all to make a giant flag and take an aerial shot lol.

That's not a bad idea. I haven't bought a lotto ticket in probably 7 years and the other day I was thinking I should get a couple just for the heck of it. Now I have some numbers to use. So thanks for the idea. If I hit it big I'm gonna owe ya for it lol.

Well those were definitely some of the better ladies of the pole I've seen, and I'm a sucker for both Firebirds and strippers, but there's just nothing sexier than finding a dirty bird hiding somewhere and taking it home

If you hit it big, I am sure we can arrange some form of compensation, say: some beers and poles...lol

Well I'm back over seas for another 6 months or so. I tucked all the birds away in the shop. My new personal best, 4 Firebirds, my Raptor and the three broke down bikes lol. I could get all 6 Firebirds in there if I didn't have all that other crap in the way.

Wow, quite the collection and stories you have there, better get one of these up and running now, before you collect too many, otherwise you wil never know which one to do!. Great start so far and be safe over there. Later

Yeah no matter how much I buy I can't stop looking for more lol. I've got about a dozen more ideas in my head, I just have to force myself to stay off ebay and craigslist until I finish 2 or 3 of the ones I've got.

I decided to keep track of what I spend on this car in the thread here. I've scored some used stuff and plan to fabricate quite a bit so I want to keep a list for everyone to reference. I'll put it in the first post and update it as I go along.

So humor me on this.....I really want to use the straight 6 in this thing and turbo it to get as much power as I can. Problem is I want the car to be as light as possible and I think the all iron L6 is about the same weight as an LS1 but with less power potential. So....I wonder how possible it would be to make an aluminum block and head. Anyone know of any place that could cast a block and head? I'm sure billet pieces would be doable though expensive, but they could be modified to make and handle more power. Any body who makes parts got any thoughts on it? I'm sure it'd never happen but it's a fun thought and I'd like to get a CNC mill and make some other things anyway. And even though a aluminum L6 would be spendy I'd be willing to spend some extra doe to have such a unique engine and be able to make some real power with a Pontiac OHC 6. Yeah sure a Toyota engine in a Camaro is unique and all but it'd be way cooler to have a 600 hp all aluminum L6 based on the original Pontiac design. Who knows, maybe I could start a whole new trend in the Pontiac world lol.

Hi Traven, that sounds like a wonderful idea (even if it is to explore the possibilities)!

You may wish to contact http://www.allpontiac.com/ regarding aluminum blocks and heads.

I suppose the real 'motivator' is whether there are sufficient number of folks who would want to step up and purchase the 4.1 cammer in an aluminum form.

The other option you may wish to look at is the Super Duty 4 cylinder (which is a Poncho design). These motors are still made by a company in Kansas http://www.kansasracingproducts.com/Welcome.html as racing blocks. May be another good option.

It is really great to hear that people are thinking outside the box and looking at alternative ways to make power for their Poncho's. Best of luck!

Keep an eye out for a used set and you might get lucky. I bought them on ebay and the seller paid almost $6k for the whole wheel and tire package, put maybe 1,000 miles on them, and sold them to me for $3150 shipped! I also bought a set of 17" profile 5 wheels w/o tires on ebay for about a grand less than what they would've cost new. A guy in Tacoma WA recently sold a set of 18" profile 5s's on lateral-g for a good price.

if you plan on doing a 6 then you need this link

      http://sohcsix.yuku.com/forum/view/id/2

I would love to see someone do a build on how light they could make there car. I have given this some thought, but you quickly come to a point when choices become expensive.

If you want to go with a real light engine I always wondered about a Grand National Aluminum turbo V6. I just couldn't do it myself.

      Manual steering and breaks.
      Fiberglass rear springs
      Aluminum parts every where
      Some times I'm fast sometimes I'm half-fast

I actually found and joined that board right after I mentioned thinking about putting the 6 back in lol.

I think alot about how to save weight. It probably won't make much difference for what I'll use the car for but it's fun to figure out ways to save weight. When I finally leave Iraq I want to get a couple scales and weigh everything I can get my hands on and make a thread (unless there is one already) that we can all add to and reference.

My 75 TA started out at 4150 lbs. I am now down to 3780 lbs. With the new suspension and brakes I hope to be down to 3600 lbs. Not too much left I can do.
