HELP!!!! I Just Want to Learn
I'm looking for any/all information about where to take metal fabrication courses/classes. Some of the schools I've looked at are all different depending on what they offer. I'm just looking for suggestions from everyone else. I'm sure this has been beaten to death so please no negative comments.
I'm even open to the idea of being someones shop bitch if I can just get some experience. Hell I'll do it for free. Welding, metal fabrication, bodywork, anything automotive I just want to learn. Thanks to the Governator I will now have every 1st & 3rd friday off along with weekends. Anyone with a shop that needs free labor or has a home project going that could use an extra hand? As long as you can teach me something I'll do it.

Trade Schools / Community Colleges.
Some of the private trade schools are pricey, but many community colleges and public trade schools have welding / collision repair / auto body / metal working / machine tools / etc. programs that you can take for pretty minimal costs.
The issue is figuring out what you're looking to do and then gaining the skills to do it. A few semesters of welding and/or auto body would be pretty valuable for anything car related, and would let you pick up some cash in your spare time.

02-02-2009 #4Try to get to any workshop Ron Covell puts on even if you have to fly there. www.covell.biz
Fay Butler also puts on workshops around the Country. Google him.
Offering to sweep floors at shops in your area in exchange to look over their shoulders will also get your foot in doors. A lot of guys will look at it as someone getting in the way whose work they may have to fix at their own expense so be willing to start at the bottom for nothing.Jason
