      Sick and Bored

Well, I am home sick and bored and so I started building a few cars in my heads. Please feel free to comment or build along!

      1) This one hit me while flipping through a new book I received for Christmas, "The Complete Book of Corvette." Take a beat up '82 Collector's Edition (has an opening hatch) and put the front end from a '68-'72. Glass in the back end of the same, but keep the opening hatch from the '82. Add a set of nice seats for the interior, plus the usual compliment of gauges, and hit up Vette Brakes to rework the suspension. A nice LS engine and a 6-speed to round it all out.

      2) '78-'80 Cutlass with T-Tops. OAI hood and lower it a bit. Nothing too fancy, but a nice LS and 6-speed will do the trick. I'm thinking of a nice Hurst style white and gold paint job and a set of the big SSIII billet wheels.

      3) This one's a bit weird, but keep with me. A Ford Granada 4-door. Smooth it out and narrow the bumpers. Paint all of the trim a nice dark semi-gloss charcoal and do the body up in silver. A Chevy DOHC inline-6 with either a 5 or 6-speed and an IRS from a T-bird. The interior should get a nice compliment of gauges, lots of leather, and a moon-roof from a late model. Now there's a daily driver I can live with! If the Chevy 6 ticks off the Ford guys, maybe an SHO 6 would do the trick?

      4) Here's an easy one. Take an '84 to 9? 'Vette (though I prefer the earlier, more square bumpers) and slam a nice LS in it. Upgrade the interior and get rid of the Star Wars inspired dash. With the price of early C-4 'vettes, this one should be cheap too!

Well, I've sneezed one too many times on the keyboard, so I need to stop typing before I electrocute myself. Happy new year!

what Ive thought about option 4:

'84 to 9 Vette. Gut it out and add Kirky seat and autometer gauges... thats it for the interior + mild cage + LSx + T56. Flared fenders and some wide meats up front and back. Convert rear to coilovers and just generally tweak the suspension some, nothing drastic. Probably make for a pretty cheap fun track car/beater (streetfighter?)

How about making it a Granada Wagon and dropping a 4.6 out of a cobra into it? I have the wagon and really just don't have the money to do it...

      1) I would like to do a 69-72 linclon mark III with a 5.4 SC and 6spd from a GT500, but build the whole car on a modified C5 chassis.

      2) a 78-83 malibu wagon on the burnt syclone chassis I have. AWD wagon would be sweet and very unexpected.

As for your ideas I love the granda idea!!

Another idea is a build a Edsel...

Being sick does this to you... another one:

Cadillac Cimarron, AWD architecture from one of the FWD/AWD crossovers (think Aztek) and a nice V-6. Lowered of course.

Hmm... now that I think about it, how about converting it to RWD, a supercharged 3.8 from a Bonneville SSEi, and a nice little 5-speed behind it. I kinda like the sound of that one, might make a great little daily driver!

I like the wagon concept! Only, graft the two frames together, and utilize a torque-arm and a watts link in place of the converging 4 link. The whole concept could work very well on any 78-87 GM intermediate.

The Granada is just a car that I think has a lot of potential while being terrible overlooked. It's around the same size as the GM A-body, but with what is essentially a Mustang floor pan.

One more before I get back to work.

New generation Chrysler 300 or Charger. Now take a '55 or so Chrysler product, and add the body panels to the new Chrysler architecture. The roof will need to be rounded a bit to make it flow with the '55 body panels, but it could work.

The Charger would also make a nice basis for a similar rework utilizing a late 40s early 50s GM fastback sedan.

Geez, I crack my self up!

I was thinking about a Plymouth Volare wagon (my in-laws had one when my wife and I were dating) with a Hemi drivetrain out of one of the LX cars (could even get crazy and do the independent rear suspension too).

something I'd like to build someday:

an S10 Extreme with a LS motor in the BED, possibly with twin turbos, six speed transaxle, and a fiberglass bed cover. make it look completely stock outside, except maybe widened rear wheels.

would be a fun track car, too

So yesterday I was doing a little research and I see that the 2nd gen. Firebird/Camaro has just about the same track and weight as a C-4 Corvette.

The question is, would you utlize an aftermarket subframe, and adapt the rear suspension, or would it be better to go with a custom frame?
