      65 mustang war horse

On 11/15/2005 my life changed. I received what would become the very first and hopefully many more projects to start. I was 19 and barley had the slightest idea of the kind of addiction i was about to get into... I saved all the money i could working construction living at home. I had saved 7 thousand dollars and was cruising eBay when i came across a 65 mustang coupe in the most southern part of Texas. it was a drag car project somebody had started and it was for 6,000. I tossed the idea back and forth for days. i finally just did it and bid... about to spend the most money i ever had on a car i never saw more than 9 pictures of. It seemed like a great deal. car had a 410ci stroker with 12:1 CR,afr 205 heads, big solid roller comp cam, forged bottom end,vic jr intake, holley 750. and roller rockers long tubes. It had a "built" c4 4000 stall, reverse valve body.IT had a mustang II front end with disk brakes and manuel rack and pinion.also a 9" housing but no 3rd member or axles.fiberglass fenders, hood, bumpers.subframe connecters, pro star big and littles, msd. And a car with no accident damage, clean title.i was very excited. paid 1000 to get it shipped. 2 long weeks and it finally arrived 11/15/05........It was here. me and my step dad at the time spent all day trying to get it started..i was a big time rookie when it came to anyting motor or car wise really. so as i learned about firing orders and TDC we finally got it started.. wow! i never heard a high compression open long tube race motor before...i was instantly hooked! my step dad looked at me and said "your gonna have a nasty little pony". all i needed was a rear end and i was "ready" to go. Well some things are to good to be true. next day i went to start it and.. nothing. tried treid tried. no spark. pull the dist.no more gear.motor eat it.while bending valves, pushrods, scoring walls and pistons. i was heartbroken. Then pissed. then determined this wasnt the end for me. pulled my first motor. Also found he half ass welded the mustang II in. i learned how to weld with some help from some friends who did. at this point i decieded to gut the entire car and salvage all the parts i could. knowing how he put ther motor together and his "craftmenship" i couldnt trust his work.suprise!! rotted floors. and hack wiring.i was overwhelmed. but with friends and my girlfriends support i stayed with it.i learned how to grind and cut thats for sure.At the time i was driving a 90 nissan maxima and was hit and got some insurance money. I said SCREW THE CAR i want a new motor! so as i had a couple thousnad dollars i went on a quest more the new heart of my horse. do i want somthing kind of quick but sedate enough for a DD. Went over to my buddys house and he had a HCI 306 notch and took me for a ride. i loved it! so the competion begins between me and all my buddys with already fast cars. i went home and ordered a chp pro street 408w short block. 4340 crank, arp main studs and main girdle,h beam rods, forged 10:1 pistons.comp cams 614in 621ex 248 254 110 sla solid roller. i wanted to make power. comp hi tech cam timing chain. lifters and pushrods.csr water pump, msd crank trigger off old motor and new crank trigger dist.

as with all good things they dont last. went to get the car dyno tuned and the "built" c4 it came with let go....so out comes the motor and trans. i start to care about what my car looks like and i figure its a good time to clean things up.studded the block.motor back together. dont mind the spacer.. new mighty demon 750,now its time to pick a new tranny.. very hard decision. another c4?? aod?? or 5 speed.. bight the bullet and save for the 5 speed.ordered a g force t5 rated for 650 hpcenterforce dual friction clutch, fidanza aluminum flywheel, steeda shifterback together and with 5 gears!! it is like a different car!!

could never get the efi reliable. so i went back to the tried and tru. i had been hearing great things about quick fuel carbs so i gave them a try. its a super street 830 mech sec. and its by far the best so far. I also changed from a 6al to a digital 6 plus. swapped out the 1 5/8 long tubes for some bbk 1 3/4. I knew i had some axle wrap but i wasnt prepared for how bad it was. thats when i knew i had to get rid of everything the car came with. So the decision was either caltracs or 4 link.i wanted to tuck a big tire so 4 link it was.

glad to see you stuck with it, looks great.
Personally, I would have been taking a trip to Texas after the kind of trouble that you found.

Car looks killer. How long has it taken you to get to this point? Keep up the good work.
